ELECIERICAL FEET/IL Implication. filed November 19', 3%14; H.
'pzinying chmving, forming a part of this specification.
My invention relates to improvements electrical terminal connections.
On e manner of connecting.battery cells together has been to join each pair of zicljaccnt terminals with :1 her of leeil, oi. other suitable materieh The bar seem l to the top of each terminal pos by a bolt having;
one end embedded in the post, while the other end passes through. an. opening in.
the bar and provided with ii suitable clamping nut. The bolt ie 'i'iemilly ma le oi? iii-ass oiyothei' relatively lHLlil .mctch so that in service it sometimes becomes coii'od l to such an extent thutite utility is (lest )yecl, and a. new one must he suhstituteth When this condition arises an entire new terminal must be installed, it is impossible to 1 0 move the corroded bolt "from the post Without destroying the post, due to the fact that the bolt is cost integrally therewith,
One of the objects of the present invem tion is to pi'ovicle an electric tei'minai connectioii wherein the clamping device new )0 expeditiously attached to m. removed fa-om. the terminal.
Another object of the invention to provicle 3 11 electric terminal connection in which the clamping ilev'ie is ii-elected from the corrosive action of hat/cry aichl mail fumes,
Dther objects oi the invci'itioii will lHJKCiZE- tion, of two connected to sectional view oi one oi hie in Fig. 1, taken through t5: 1 ing in the direction of the iii'irovn Y iiig {lfifVjlfzG heing detached. therefrom: hie.

lating the parts,
with a filler of Vaseline, or other heavy oily substance, to exclude battery acid and fumes from the joints.
In order to prevent the tapered block from turning or falling when the parts are being assembled, the base of the terminal is provided with a horizontal bore 17, which registers with the groove 18, formed across the end of the tapered block. A pin 19 of hard rubber, or other suitable material, passes through the bore and the groove and serves to securely lock the block in position.
This improved construction possesses decided advantages over the old form of terminal connection in that the bolt maybe readily removed from the post should it become corroded in service, and a new one substistituted therefor; it being merely necessary to remove the block in which the bolt is embedded from the post and insert another one in its place. Another important feature of this construction i's-that all of the hard metalparts, and especially the screw-threaded portions, are protected from the corrosive action of the battery acid and fumes.
In Fig. 4 of the drawings, a modified form of clamping device is illustrated, in which the arrangement of the nut and bolt is reversed; the'nut 20 being embedded in the tapered block. In this construction the bolt 21 is formed with a head having an inclosing casing substantially the same as that employed with the nut illustrated in Fig. 1. If desired, the lead block may be dispensed with and the bolt-or nut modified in configuration to conform to the contour of-the tapei-ed opening in the post. i
The embodiments of my invention described herein have been selected merely for the purpose of illustration, and .it is to be understood that the invention covers all equivalent means for accomplishing the desired results, so' long as such means fall within tho-scope of the appended claims.
' What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
1. Means for attaching a battery connector to a battery terminal lug including in combination, the battery terminal lug of relatively soft acid-proof material, said ter-.
minal having an opening therein, an insert of relatively hard conducting material in said opening, a-battery connector, and means exerting a stress on said relatively hard material for clamping said connector to 'said terminal, said insert being readily removable from said terminal without muti whereby said insert may be renewed or repaired without destroying the terminal.
2. In combination, a battery terminal having a tapered aperture therethrough, a conducting member to be clamped to said terminal, atapered screw'threaded member of relatively hard material rcmovably fitted in said aperture, and a threaded nut carried by saidtapered member, said tapered mem. ber and threaded nut cooperating to clamp said conducting member to said terminal.
3. In combination, a battery terminal having a. tapered opening therethrough, a con ducting member to be clamped to said terminal, a tapered threaded member removably fitted in said opening, and a threaded stud cooperating with said threaded tapered member, said tapered member and threaded stud cooperating to clamp said conducting member to said terminal.
4. In an acid-proof battery terminal connection, in combination, a terminal having threaded portion fitted in said aperture, said portion being removable from one end only of said aperture, said clamping device also having a threaded portion adapted to cooperate with the threaded portion fitted in saidaperture to clamp said conducting member to said terminal. I
6. In combination, a battery terminal having an aperture formed vertically there through and a substantially horizontal bore, a clamping device attached to said terminal, said device having a portion formed "with a. grooved end and fitted in said aperture, and a pin passing through said bore and groove whereby said clamping device is held-a ainst displacement.
7. A battery terminal lag of relatively soft acid-proof material and a relatively hard metallic insert in said terminal form'- ing one of cooperating clamping members adapted to clamp abattery connector to the terminal, said insert being readily removable for renewal or repair without mutilation of the terminal lug. ,j-
8. In combination, a battery terminal lug of relatively soft material provided with a tapered opening, a hard metallic insert fit-l ted in said opening butflreadily removable therefrom without mutilation of the lug. and an additional relatively hard member adapted to coiiperate with said insert to clamp a separable battery connector to said lug. I i
9. In COITIlJlIltltlOI), a lead battery terminal having a tapered opening therethrough, a tapered lead plug removably fitted in Said opening, an'insert of relatively hard material in said plug, said insert being 130 provided with "screW-threads, a separable scribed my name in theprese'nce of two wit- I vbattery cqnnecigoradapted to be'clamped masses.
