DOOR KEY SECURING DEVICE.
APPLICATION HLED NOV. 10. I915.

Wl'lN ESSES:
STATES PATENT OF TC.
MORRIS W. ROSENSI-IINE, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF T0 HERBERT E. CLAYBURGI-I, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
DOOR-KEY-SECURING DEVICE.
Application filed November 10, 1915.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MORRIS W. RosnN- SHINE, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Door-Key-Securing Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a means for securing keys in a lock in such a manner as to prevent their being easily removed if left after the door has been locked.
It consists of an elastic two-part shank of the key so constructed that it may readily enter the hole in the escutcheon of the lock, having a narrower portion with shoulders engaging the edge of the escutcheon so that the key cannot be removed from the outside.
The invention consists of the parts and the construction and combination of parts as hereinafter more fully described and claimed, having reference to the drawings, in which Figure 1 shows a vertical central sectional view of a lock, applied to which is'a key embodying my invention. Fig. 2 shows a similar view with the key turned to present its edges. Fig. 3 shows a sectional view taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
As shown in the drawings, the shank A of the key is provided with wards 2, adapted to engage with the tumblers of the lock B in the usual manner. The outer end of the shank has attached to it two elastic arms 33, one upon each side forming together a rectangular outline which is of just suflicient size to enter the circular part of the escutcheon opening C. This portion of the key is just long enough to enter the lock Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 11, 1916.
Serial No. 60,666.
when the wards are in proper position, and exterlor to the ends of the portions 3, the metal is cut away until it forms shoulders 4, which will enter the key hole, and will there expand and engage the circular portion of the key hole as soon as the pressure upon the outer end 5 of the key is released. 'Thus, when the key has been turned and the lock secured, the key may be left in the lock and cannot be removed by any manipulation from the outside, because the shoulders 41 are expansibly engaged with the edge of the key hole. The key may be left in the look at all times if desired, and whether the door be locked or unlocked, the key will remain in place and cannot be lost. In order to remove the key it is necessary to press upon the two separate sides 5, which will draw the parts 33 toward each other sufficiently to allow them to pass out through the key hole, so that the key may be removed.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The combination in a key of a shank hav ing wards to fit the lock, elastic plates secured to' the inner end of the shank, said plates arranged to form a rectangular outline and having shoulders formed at the outer ends and extensions terminating in compressible hand-grips.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MORRIS W. ROSENSHINE.
