Description
E. F. SCHNUCK. Mov/BLE GATE Fo BINS-AND THE LIKE.
APPLICATION FILED OCT- 6 1913- Patented Jim@ 27,1916.
provided with lugs 13, 11, which areon o UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE EDWRD SCHNUCK, 0F GREENBURG, NEW'YOBK," ASSIGNOB, TO JABEZ BURNS SONS, A V(V'Olz'tPOIBLATQN' @F NEW YQBK,
'MVAEL GATE'FR BINS AME THE LIKE.
Applieetien led @eteloer il, 1m31. Serial No. i'93,6i95
To all whom it may concern f Be it lniewn that l, EDWARD F, ScnNUon,
a citizen of lthe United States,'residing at Greenberg, in the eennty of VestcliesterY and State of New York, have invented cer-V tain new and useful improvements in Movable Gates for Bins and thelilre, et which the telle-Wing is a lull, clear, and exact specification. l s' This inventicn relates te inevalyle` gateS for bins and the like, wherein it-is desired to control the liew el ccmminnted materials, such as grains, sugar, codes, the like which have a' tendency clog in the opening,
The object -etlie invention is to provide a gate in a chute er passage which is preferalely slide-hie te epen and close the pas# sage, and which in closing the passage-dees not permit the material to catch er clog the guide'ways.
A further ebiect el the invention is to provide a device which can ne readily taken apart, and which can be applied in connection Wit machines, Warehouses andthe like. v
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a plan View oi a mechanism 'embodying an upright collar extension 7 .to which thel hopper 1 is attached -Y `8 represents a bottom supporting late having a dat face on whichthe'gate 4 sEdes, these plates 6 and 8 beingpreferably cut in as at 9 in order to receive the handle l0 of the gate 4, when the latter is closed, so that thehandle will not objectionahly pro ject outside the apparatus with which the bin is associatedn The plates '6 and 8' as herein shown are posite sides respectively, so that when t 'e plates are brought together and-l, secured n various existing bins in packaging ont deflection, and will' by holte l2 a space er'slide will he provided fer the gate 4, it losing seen that the gate is snpperted by the lower plate 8, and dis posed very clese to theleiver face of upper plate 6, so that an accurate closing et the passage is eli'ected'hythe `Jelte., The handles Slpeeieatien of Letters atent, btened Jimi@ 229 E936,
'l0 are preferably provi ed with legs le which act as stops, shown in detted lines er Fig; l against the cnt-away pcrtion ci the upper plate, te limit the closing ve ment cie thegate, While thegate isY provided Aat the ether end 'with a step lug l5 which strilresagainst ene el the plates to limit 'the opening ine-verneint. .The lovverplate 8 isprovided with a rectangular tiihnlar es tensien le te which theehute 3 is attachede The rectangular tubular extension 16 1s inade langer en each-sidetlian the diameter l el the opening tlarongh'the upper plate, and el cenrse larger thanA the epening 5 in la the `gate will fall' freely Without loeing caught in the lower tuloe er inthe guide Ways. lt will alseloe seen-'that the 'gate is supported "Foy the lower plate 8, beth at the sides and at the lrent and haelt with ample supporting surface, so that it will carry the une gate, sothat the material, once passing Weight el the material in the hopper l Withals@ remove evenly. ly cutting in the plates 6 and. 8 as at 9, the gate can lee shortened in ever-all length, and *whenv the gate is in closed position as shcvvn in dotted lines, Fig, l, there is very slight projection ci the handle beyond the ends of guides, it Yseing further seen that this construction very long guides are attained.,
The improvement is capable of use in vvarious relations, and thereiere the construction o bins and chutes is net illus trated or particularly described, it lacing aving thus described my invention, I-
declare that what l. claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l A gate mechanism for a biny or the like comprising an upper late having an aper-` Fseen that these will vary with diilerent inf ture and an upwar ly extending Harige y -lush with said aperture, a lower plate having anaperture larger than said' amper aperture and' a downwardly extending d' with said lower aperture, means holdingsaid ange ush plates together and leaving a guideway beaperture )with relation to the apertures in l0 tween them, extensions on opposite edges of said plates. s
