GAME-TABLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 9, 1916.
Application filed September 24, 1915. Serial No. 52,451.
To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, JOSEPH Binnsr, subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new the players as well as deposit receptacles for each player.
A further object; ofthe device is to provide a closable cabinet having a plurality of foldable chairs advantageously positioned with respect to the top thereof for such purposes as playing games or eating lunches, the cabinet being further provided with a receiving compartment adjacent each of the said chairs.
A still further object is to provide an article of furniture in the form of a combined cabinet and chairs giving the appearance when closed of a cabinet while being readily opened to allow the use of the inclosed chairs upon all sides thereof. With these general objects in view an others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same con- 1 sists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts'hereinafter more fully 'described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings forming a part of this application and in which like-designating characters refer -to corresponding parts throughoutthe several views :Figure l is a rear perspective view of the device in its closed position. Fig. 2 is a front perspective view thereof in its open position two of the chairs however being olded within the cabinet. Fi 3 is anenlarged vertical sectionalview o a portion of the device as shown in Fig. 1 but with the deposit com,
partments closed. Fig. 4 is a top plan view of Fig. 3, and Fig. 5 is a side elevation of one of the chairs partially broken away.
Referring more in detail to the drawings, a table is provided of substantially the usual shape of a desk or cabinet and embodying a flat table top 11. hinged as at 12 to asubstantially rectangular top frame 13. Within the top frame directly beneath the hinged top ll there are arranged upper and lower compartments 14 and 15 respectively, opposltely opening front and rear portions 16 being provided for gaining access to the lower compartment 15, while end portions 17 are arranged for allowing access to the end compartments 18 into which the upper compartment 14 is divided.
The table top and frame are supported by corner legs 10 to which are hinged front panels 19 and end pane1s20, these panels constituting closure doors when the device is folded and serving as chair backs when opened. Each chair is of identical'construct1on, and in addition to the panels 19 or 20 formmg the back, comprises a seat 23 hinged as at 24 to a slide 21 that is received-in cleats 22 secured to the inner face of he panel. A swinging leg 25 is hinged at its rear edge as at 26 adjacent the outer end of the slide 21 adapted to be moved to supporting position under the chair seat or bottom as shown in Figs. 2 or 5, and also folded against the back to permit folding of the seat and closing of the panel. A plurality of sockets 27 are provided upon the under side of the seat 23 adapted for the reception of a spring-pressed catch or bolt 28 carried by the forward upper corner of the leg 25 whereby the said le' may be shiftably retained at the desired angle beneath the bottom 23 as best illustrated by dotted lines in Fig.4. The slides 21 bearing the foldable seats 23 may be thus shifted laterally to the desired position, while the legs 25 fold inwardly against the leaves 19 and 20 when the seats are closed, the bottoms23 overlying the legs 25 in the manner best illustrated in Fig. 3 and at which times the panels are readily closed as shown in Fig. 1.
With the cabinet closed as illustrated in Fig. 1, the topll may be open when desired for gaining access to the upper compartments 14 but the said top is preferably closedwhen the device is employed as a game or lunch table. The device as herein illustrated provides seats for six occupants and as many of the panels 19 and 20 may be opened as desired and the chair'bottoms 23 positioned horizontally with the legs 25 adusted there-under by means of the retaining bolts 28 and the seats are then slid outwardly to the desired position upon the slides 21, the seats being thus arranged .around the cabinet and adjacentthe small doors 16 and 17 which may be employed for the reception of cards or any other desired objects, While the top 11 is readily utilized by the occupants of the chairs.
It will thus be seen that a compact deskform of cabinet is arranged which provides all the necessary furniture for playing games such as cards or for other purposes such as the serving of refreshments and While the form of the invention herein shown is the preferable embodiment thereof, minor changes may be made which will fall Within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim as new is:
1. The combination with a table top and supporting legs therefor, of panels hinged to said legs, each panel constituting a closure door in closed position and in open position serving as a chair back, a pair of horizontal spaced cleats secured to the inner face of each panel, a slide mounted in each pair of cleats, a supporting leg hinged to each slide, and a seat hinged to each slide and supported in operative position by said hinged leg.
2. In a device of the character described, a support, a panel hinged thereto constituting a door in its closed position and serving as a chair back in its open position, a slide carried-by the inner face of the panel movable laterally of the panel, a chair seat hinged to the slide, and a hinged leg for supporting said chair seat when the latter is in open position.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
JOSEPH BEKESI.
