JOHN REBEL, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
BATH-TUB BRUSH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 9, 1916.
Application filed July 1, 1915. Serial No. 37,423.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN REBEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bath-Tub Brushes, of which the following is a specification. I
This invention pertains to a brush for bathtubs, and the invention consists in the construction and combination of parts substantially as shown and described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In theaccompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the brush and its handle strap. Fig. 2 is a cross section thereof. Fig. 3 is an enlarged view of the brush and a cross section of a portion of a bathtub to which it is removably attached over the roll thereon.
The invention thus shown covers a convertible bath brush B, the said brush being, preferably, constructed with a rubber back or body, and provided with a unitary flexible handle strap 2 provided with a link 8 in its free end and a hook it swiveled in said link so as to freely turn therein according to the engagement to be made therein. Thus, the brush is provided with a lip or catch 4 at its edge provided with a transverse slot adapted to engage the hook it therein and to frictionally hold the hook when engaged, as the tendency would otherwise be for the hook to drop out when the handle was relaxed. The said hook also has more or less flexibility or spring so as to engage and look over or upon the roll 6 of the bath tub T. In this latter position the brush lies against the end of the inside of the tub and provides a head rest for the bather, while in the relation of the parts in Fig. 1, the strap 2 engages over the hand like hand straps usually in brushes. By means of the swivel the hook can be reversed so as to turn inward as in Fig. 1. compared with the reverse position in Fig. 3. That is, without means on the opposite edge of the the swivel the hook would have to be engaged from within outward instead of from without inward as in Fig. 1, and that would be both awkward and otherwise undesirable. The spring of the hook adapts it to rolls of different sizes within limits. The strap or handle 2 is almost necessarily made of rubher, but if other desirable flexible material be substituted for the rubber it will be within the invention. Brush B is also shown as made of rubber but it may be constructed of other material. However, rubber is preferred as it provides a member capable of serving as a cushion and also furnishes a flexible strap 2 adapted to conform to the curvature of the roll to permit engagement of the hook i with the edge thereof.
I What I claim is:
1. A bath-tub brush having a strap afiixed to one edge thereof and a spring hook having swiveled connection with the other end and provided with a catch for said hook, whereby said hook can be engaged with said catch or with the roll of a bath-tub at pleasure.
2. A bath-tub brush having a flexible strap permanently engaged with one edge thereof and provided with a hook rotatably attached to the other end and adapted to be engaged over the roll of a bath tub and rush adapted to engage said hook therewith.
3. An article of manufacture consisting of a bath-tub brush having a flexible strap attached to the edge thereof and provided with a hook rotatably secured to its free end and constructed to engage over the edge roll of a bath-tub.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN REBEL.
