Description

R." E. HOUGHTON & M. 1. HANLON.
a; EMERY WHEEL' REST.
\ APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 9. I915. 1,180,041. Patented Apr. 18,1916.
WITNESSES With 1th a crating elevation p supportsain an end erally for presenting an edge to a grinding wheel, and means on the base for engaging the bent portion of the support whereby said edge is maintained in operative position to one side of the swinging axis of the support, said support being free to swing away from said means to be moved into inoperative position, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A tool restfor grindin wheels comprising a- U-shaped base, pairs of lugs on the branches of the U and on the portion joining the branches, tool support-s engaging the pairs of lugs at their lower end, a
'- pivot connecting each of the supports to the lugs whereby said supports are free to swing on the base, each of said supports having a portion thereof at the, upper end bent laterally for presenting an edge, and resting lugs on the base for each of the supports for engaging the bent portion thereof and maintaining the edge in a predetermined position over the recess between the branches of the U base, each of said supports being free to swing away from the resting lugs, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. A tool rest for grinding wheels com prising a support mounted to swing to and from a grinding wheel, and a rest for the support for maintaining it spaced from the wheels the relation between the grinding surface of the wheel, the part of the tool support spaced from the wheel and the pivot of the support being such that when a tool is drawn between the support and the wheel the su port is caused to swing on its pivot away rom the wheel.
4. A tool rest for grinding wheels comprising a base having lugs, a support mounted to swing in the lugs, said support forming an edge at the free end thereof, and a rest on the base for the support to present the edge of the support in spaced operative relation to a wheel, said edge of support being so formed and so related to its pivot and the surface of the wheel that when a tool is drawn between the wheel and the edge the support is caused to swing on its pivot away from the wheel.
5. A tool rest for grinding wheels comprising a tool support mounted to swing at its lower end to and from a grindin wheel, and a rest for maintaining the ot er end spaced from the grinding surface of the wheel, so that when a tool is drawn between the end and the grinding surface of the wheel the support is caused to swing on its pivot away from the wheel.
In testimony whereof we have signed our names to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
