Specification of Letters Patent. ,Patgnted Ap 11, 1916 Application filed April 28, 1914. Serial No. 834,933.
To allwhom itmag concern: 7
Be it known that I, ANDREAS OLSEN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Ephraim, in the county of Sanpete and State of Utah, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hearses, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in hearses, with the object in view of providing a hearse that will be economical in the manufacture, and one that will be substantial and attractive in appearance.
A further object is to provide a hearse body in which the artistic effect is incorporated in the construction, thereby doing away with such embellishments as draperies, curtains and hangings, which occupy so much room within the hearse and collect dust and dirt, and alsomake it more sanitary.
A still further object is to provide a hearse body which will afford an unobstructed interior.
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my improved hearse body, Fig. 2 represents a transverse central section in two planes taken through a column and pilaster on one side and the window and frame on the other, and Fig. 3 represents a detail horizontal section illustrating the manner of assembling the side walls.
The body of the hearse comprises a truck 2 formed by bearers 3, which are spaced apart and held by deck beams 4, which are I notched at 5 to rest upon the bearers 3. A fascia 6 is secured to the bearer 3 to cover the ends of the beams and form a neat finish. A deck 7 is located upon the deck beams 4. A molding 8 is secured to the fascia v6 beneath the deck 7 and a molding 9 is fixed to the bottom of the fascia, both of which moldings form an attractive finish. A series of columns 10 are mounted upon the deck 7 to support a frame 11. A bolt 12 passes through the frame 11,, column 10-, deck 7, deck beam 4 and bearer 3, and is adapted to receive a nut 13, by which bolt and nut, the aforesaid parts are all looked together. A cornice lt and roof 15 are secured to the frame 11 by bolts 16.
In Fig. 1 I have shown in perspective a body of a hearse as applied to a horsedrawn vehicle, but I do not wish to limit myself to this particular form of body alone, as I may apply the body to a motor truck.
While I have shown the window frames of a design known as cathedral effect, it will be understoodthat I may make these windows of any other fanciful design without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.
That I claim is 1. A hearse body comprising a truck, a
