FOUNTAIN-PEN.
anatra.
To au whom 'it may concern Be it known a subject of the Emperor of Japan, residing at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York,'have invented new and useful Improvements in Fountain-Pens, of which the following isa speci? fication. l
rIhis invention relates to fountain pens and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed. ,An object of the invention is to provide a fountain pen of simple structure having-its v parts so arrangedl that the ink may be" readily fed tothe pen poi-nt.
' vide meansl for readily fillingy the bulb or i sack which contains the 'ink.
With these objects 1n view prises a barrel or handle having a slot disi plug is inand isprovided Contact at one end with the pen point. The penfpoint i's-held in positionvin the barrel or handle by the said plug, andthe plug and bar are provided withy a longitudinally disposed opening. A flexible sack is connected with the said plugl and a'spring is mounted upon the plug and extends along the sack. A block is'vslidably mounted in the barrel .or handle and is adapted to move along the said lspring whereby the said springI is flexed and the side ofthe sack is moved in an inwarddirecti'on whereby the sack expels the ink through the opening in ,the plug and feed bar.
i ln the accompanying drawing :'-Figurev 1 is a plan viewof the pen. Fig. .2 isy an 40 enlarged 'side elevation of ,the same with parts in section.' Fig. 3 is a plan view of the feed bar and plug. 1F ig. 4 4is a Side lelevation of the sack detached from the plug.
As illustrated in the accompanying drawing,
plug 3 is fittedv in one'end of the barrel..or
' handle 1 and is provided at its periphery with tion of a pen po-int 5 whereby the said point f best shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing. T hoarecess 4 adapted to receive the end porthat I, 'HEIGHI SAwAMURA,'
lthe pen com-v the pen comprises a. barrel or handle 1 which is provided in the vicinity of one end with a longitudinally disposed slot 2. QAv
plug 3 and the feed bar 6 are provided withv a longitudinally disposed opening 7, one end .A
of which terminates adjacent the inner surface of the pen po1nt5. A. iiexible sack 8 is attached to the inner end of the plug 3 and surrounds the inner end of the opening When the sack 8 is supplied with a suit-V able lquantity of ink and it is desired to cause 'the same to flow from the said `sack through the opening 7 to the pen point 5, the block 10 may be moved along the spring 9 whereby'the said spring Vis flexed in an inward direction and the side of the sackY 8' is compressed and thus the ink is forced .from the said sack through the opening 7 .to the pen point 5. From the point wherethe in k arrives upon the pen point 5 'it may' gravitate'or move by capillary action to the ends of movement of the blockl() along the spring 9, the slot 2 acting in conjunction with the 'shank 11 serves as a'guide for the blockl and holds the same in position against the side of the spring 9. y
From the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, it .will be seen thata fountain pen of simple structure .is provided and that the parts thereof may be easily and quickly manipulated to cause the ink to flow vfrom the sackto the point of the pen.4 `Vlhen it 'is desired to refill the sack '8 with ink, the plug 3 `is detached from the handle 1 and the ksaid sack is compressed .between the fingers whereby the air is forced from the sack. The lower end of the feed bar 6 is then immersed in the ink and pressure from the sides of'the sack 8 is removed whereby' the sack expands and a partial vacuum is created therein which causes the ink .to
flow up through the opening 7 and :partially or completely ill the said sack.
, -,Having described the invention what is claimed is .A fountain pen comprising a handle having a longitudinallydisposed slot, a plug inserted in the handle and having a feed Patented AprAf, ilgf. Application filed September 3, 1915. Serial No. 49,820. i

bar,'said feed bar and plug having an opening, a sack mounted on the plug and surrounding one end of the opening, a flexible spring mounted upon' the plug and extending along the sack under the'slot, the end portionsof the spring projecting beyond the ends of the slot, and a block having a shank-located in the slot, the slot servingl as means for guiding the block along the HEXCHI SAlVAMUR-A.
