UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE E. CURTISS, OF NEW BRITAIN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO LAN DERS, FRARY & CLARK, OF BRITAIN, CONNECTICUT, A CORPORATION OF CONNECTICUT.
TRAY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 28, 1916.
T 0 all whom it mayconcenn:
Be it known that I, Gnonon E. CURTISS, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Britain, in the county of Hartford, State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trays, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to trays and like articles provided with glass plates, and the object of this invention is to provide a novel arrangement for holding the glass in place.
In the drawings, Figure lis a plan view of a tray made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view thereof. Fig. 3 shows the separated parts of the catch.
Referring to the drawings, a denotes the frame which as shown is of channel form although this is not essential. The inner wall 7) is formed in two diameters by offsetting it to form the shoulder 0 which, with the bead (Z formed at the lower edge of the inner wall, provides a recess within which fits the tray plate 6 preferably backed by some covering material f.
g is a glass plate fitting freely within the smaller part of the inner wall and resting on the tray plate 6.
h is a permanent clip secured to the frame and overlying the glass plate at one side.
i is an adjustable clip mounted on the un derside of the frame opposite the fixed clip h and supported by the guide 7'. The clip has an elongated opening through it to receive the reduced end 72 of the screw Z which is threaded into the guide 31', the end of the screw being adapted to bear against the clip 2' to hold it in any position of adjustment. The loosening of the screw permits sliding the clip 2' either to the position shown in Fig. 2 to hold the glass in place,
or backward to release the glass, and 1n either position it can be secured by the.
tionary clip supported at the underside of said frame and overlying said glass plate at one edge, and an oppositely arranged adjustable clip supported on the underside of the frame and movable t0 overlie and en- I gage and disengage said glass plate, and means for fastening said clip in adjusted position.
2. A tray comprising a frame provided with a face and a depending inner wall laterally oifset at its lower portion to provide an opening smaller at top than at bottom, a tray plate insertible from beneath and fitting the larger opening, and means at the end of the depending wall to secure said plate. in position, a glass plate located in the smaller opening and resting on said tray plate, and means located on the underside of'the frame and projecting.therethrough to overlie said glass plate and. secure it in po sition.
