JOHN BAY. OF PORTLAND, OREGON.
ADJUSTABLE MITER-BOX CLAMP.
Application filed May 8, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN RAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Portland, in the county of Multnomah and State of Oregon, have invented new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Miter-Box Clamps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved clamp for use in connection with a miter box for holding the work in place in the box while being sawed, the object of the invention being to provide an improved device of this character which is cheap and simple, is strong and durable, which may be readily attached to a miter box, which is adjustable so that it may be used on miter boxes of various sizes.
The invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of de vices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective *iew of a clamp constructed in accordance with my invention, showing the same arranged for use on a miter box. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the clamp. Figs. 8 and 4 are detail sections of the same.
In the embodiment of my invention I provide angle pieces 1-:2 and 3 which are adjustably connected together and also provide an adjusting member at which is adjustably connected to the angle pieces 3. The angle piece 1 has a vertical arm 5 for arrangement on the outer side of the back a of a miter box and also has a horizontal arm 6 to extend forwardly part way over the box. The arm 5 has set screws 7 to engage the back of the box and secure said angle piece at any desired place on the back. The arm 6 has a bore 8 which receives the extended stem 9 of the horizontal arm 10 of the angle piece 2 so that said angle piece 2 is adjustably connected to the angle piece at the arm 6 of the angle piece 1 having a set screw 11 to secure the extended stem 9 in place.
The angle piece 2 has its vertical armlil provided with a vertically arranged extended stem 13 which is adjustably fitted in the bore 14 of the vertical arm 15 of the angle piece 3, and held therein at any desired ad- Specification of Letters Patent.

justment by a set screw 16 with which said arm 15 is provided. The adjusting member 4: has an outwardly extended horizontally arranged stem or arm 17 which is arranged in the bore of the horizontal arm 18 of the angle piece 3 and is adjustably held at 2 by a set screw 19. The adjusting member 4 is provided on its upper side, at its inner end, with a T-shaped jaw 20 to bear under the bottom 6 of the miter box and against the inner side of the wall or flange 0 of the base frame of the miter box, said adjusting member also having an upwardly extended jaw 21 placed from the aw 20 and provided with a clamping screw 22 to engage the outer side of said flange 0. Hence the members of the clamp are adapted to be readily attached to and released from the miter box at will.
The angle piece 2 is provided in the angle between its arms with an opening 23 in which is arranged a pivotally mounted nut 24, pivots or trunnions of the nut being indicated at 25. A clamping screw 26 is threaded through the pivotally mounted nut 2d and has the upper end thereof equipped with a hand wheel and the lower end swiveled to a block 27 and the block 27 is, in turn, pivotally connected with a tread or foot piece 28 that is designed to bear directly on the work. The nut and clamping screw may be arranged and held at any desired angle by means of the adjusting screws 29 with which the angle piece 2 is equipped.
Having thus described my invention I claim A miter box clamp comprising an angle piece having one leg adapted to engage the back of the miter box and the other leg adapted to extend over the miter box, a sec ond angle piece, an adjustable connection between one leg of the second angle piece and the leg of the first angle piece extending over the miter box, a third angle piece having a vertical leg and a horizontal leg, an adjustable connection between the vertical leg of the last-mentioned angle piece and the remaining leg of the second-named angle piece, a connection between the horizontal leg of the last-named angle piece In testimony whereof I aflix Iny signaand the bottom of the miter box, a work enture in presence of two witnesses.
gaging foot, a screw adjustably connected JOHN RAY. to the second-named angle piece at the Witnesses:
angle thereof, and a connection between A. Bosso,
said work engaging foot and screw. Dommoo BRAGHERO.
