NON-BEFILLABLE BOTTLE.

Be it known that I, VJADE H. PETERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Nisland, in the county of Butte and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. a
This invention relates to improvements in non-refillable bottles which in the opening or unsealing of the same, are partially destroyed.
The object of the invention is to provide a bottle designed to prevent fraudulent refilling thereof after the original contents have once been withdrawn, and the invention consists primarily in the provision of a novel form of closure for the bottle which is adapted when opened, to so mutilate the bot tle as to obviate all likelihood of the bottle being again used. a

The closure for this bottle comprises an outer stopper 9 formed of any suitable nonpenetrable and non-rustible material such as galvanized metal and which is shaped to fit the month of the bottle and to be inserted in the neck 2 thereof until the outer end of the stopper extends flush with the outer edge or mouth of the bottle neck, to prevent any possibility of the stopper being removed after it has once been inserted. Fixed to the inner'end of the stopper 9, preferably made integral therewith, is a rod 10 having a cork 11 slidably mounted on its lower end which isreduced to form a stop 10 at its juncture with'the body of the rod for limiting the downward movement of said rod in said cork, said cork being adapted to be seated in the neck 6 of the bottle bottom when the bottle is opened as is shown in Fig. 3 and which will be hereinafter more fully described. The rod 10 must be of a'length to permit the cork orstopper 11 to enter and be seated in the bottle neck 6 when the stopper 9 is forced inwardly into the bottle. The lower or inner end of therod 10 is pierced by a transversely extending aperture 10 at a point'spaced from its terminal and this rod end is slit longitudinally from said aperture 10 to the lower'ter'minal' as shown at 10 formingtwo resilient clamping j aws 10 and 10 for a purpose to be described. posite the slit 10 being designed as a stop to limit the movement of the rod 10 relatively to said member 8 when force is applied to the stopper 9.
In the use of this device, after the bottle 1 has been filled, the rod with the stoppers 9 and 11 thereon is inserted through the neck 2 and the stopper 9 is forced into said neck until its outer end is arranged flush with the outer edge of the neck 2 and when in this position, the stopper 11 will be arranged in alinement with and with its lower end just entering the neck 6 at the lower end of the bottle and with the point 9f resting on the thin glass 5 of the bottom 4, (see Figs. 1 and 2). When it is desired to remove the contents of the bottle, force is exerted on he stopper 9 to press it into the bottle and when it is so moved inward below the inner end of the neck 2, the rod 10 moving down will cause the jaws 10 and 10 to move on the member 8 until the free end of the wedgeshaped end 8 abuts the inner wall of the aperture 10 and then the pointed end 8 of said member 8 will be forced through the thin wall 5 and the cork 11 will move into the neck 6 and be seated on the shoulder 7 and a portion of the contents of said neck. 6 will pass out of said neck through the groove 10 in rod 10 into the body of the bottle. The further downward movement of the rod 10 will cause it to pass through the cork 11 until the stop 10 thereof engages the inner end of said cork when the groove will be closed and the neck closed against the discharge of any liquid therethrough. The contents of the bottle may then be readily removed through the neck 2 but it cannot be again refilled without indicating that it has-been used before, the breaking of the frangible portion 5 of the bottle bottom indicating that the bottle has been opened.
I claim as my invention l. A non-refillable bottle having a bottom with a neck extending inwardly therefrom, the portion of the bottle bottom within said neck being readily frangible, a closure for said bottle comprising two stoppers adapted to alternately close the respective necks of the bottle, means for connecting said stoppers, means for breaking the bottom within said lower neck on the opening of the outer neck and closing of the inner, and means for permitting the return of the liquid in said lower neck to the bottle and thereby relieving the pressure produced in said lower neck on the seating of the lower-stopper in said neck.

A non-refillable bottle having a bottom with a neck extending inwardlytherefrom, the portion of the bottle bottom within said neck being readily frangible, a closure for said bottle comprising a rod having a stopper fixed to one end and provided near its other end with a stop, the end of said rod beyond said stop being slit longitudinally, a stopper slidable on said end beyond said stop, a groove extending longitudinally of said end. beyond said stop, and breaking means for said frangible bottom detachably mounted in the slit end of said rod.
3. A non-refillable bottle having a bottom with a neck extending inwardly therefrom, the portion of the bottle bottom within said neck being readily frangible, a
closure for said bottle comprising a rodhaving a stopper fixed to one end and provided near its other end with a stop, the end of said rod beyond said stop being slit longitudinally, a stopper slidable on saidend beyond said stop, said rod having an.
aperture extending transversely thereof into which said slit merges at its inner end, and. a breaking element having one end wedge-- shaped for insertion in said slit rod end and its other end pointed for penetrating the frangible portion of said bottle bottom.
4. A non-refillable bottle having a bottom.
