JAMES W. STONE, OF ROBERTS, OREGON.
TRACE AND TUG HOLD R.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 14, 1916.
Application filed November 11, 1914. Serial No. 871,549.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES W. STONE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Roberts, in the county of Crook and State of Oregon, have invented new and useful Improvements in Trace and Tug Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved trace and tug holder for use on the end of a swingletree to engage a tug or trace and prevent the tug or trace from becoming casually detached from the swingletree end, the object of the invention being to provide an improved device of this character which is extremely cheap and simple, which may be readily used on any ordinary swingletree and which is entirely eflicient in operation.
The invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings :-Figure- 1 is a plan of a portion of a swingletree provided with a holder constructedin accordance with my invention and showing the holder engaged with a trace. Fig. 2 lsa similar view of the same showing the holder engaged with the cockeye of a tug- Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view, on a larger scale of the trace and tug holder.
For the purposes of this specification a swingletree is indicated at 1, provided with the usual attaching devices 2, at its ends for engagement either by a trace 3 or by the cockeye 5 of a tug 4.
In accordance with my invention the swingletree is provided with a pair of holders 6. Each holder comprises a plate 7 se- Gopies of this patent may be obtained for cured on the swingletree by means of screws 8 and the plate is formed with an arm 9 at its outer end which is provided with an eye 10. This eye is engaged by an eye 11 at the inner end of a coiled extensile spring 12.
The outer end of the spring isprovided with an eye 13 for engagement with an eye 14 at the inner end of a hook 15. When a trace or tug has been attached to the end of the swingletree at which the holder is arranged the hook must be drawn outwardly, against the tension of the spring, and engaged over the trace'or over the cockeye of the tug, as
shown in Figs. 1, 2, and hence the holder serves to effectually prevent the trace or tug from becomlng casually detached from the swingletree.
Having thus described my invention, '1 claim The herein described trace and tug holder 1 JAMES W. STONE.
