UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
I CLARENCE J. DAWSON, 0F DETROIT, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO MOSES E. BLOOM, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
MEANS FOR PREVENTING THE ACCIDENTAL TAKING 0F POISON-TABLETS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. '1, 1916.
Application filed July 22, 1914. Serial No. 852,451.
Improvements in Means for Preventing the Accidental Taking of Poison-Tablets, of which the following is a specification.
An object of the invention is to provide a guard for use in connection with poison tablets and. the like, and adapted to prevent the accidental taking of a tabl t, particularly by persons endeavoring to take medicine during the night season or in dark- .ened rooms and in which instance they are liable to make mistakes and take poison tablets instead of others which they intended to take.
The invention contemplates, among other features, the provision of a guard which is adapted to be applied to the tablet and substantially surround the same so as to prevent the taking of a poison tablet by a person who would otherwise, particularly in cases where a room is darkened or in the night season, take a tablet from a box and simply by the feel or shape of the tablet would conclude that the same is not of a poisonous nature andis the tablet that the person desires to take, fwher eas in fact the tablet might be of a poisonous nature, thus resulting fatally.
To this end the guard consists of a single piece of material bent to secure the tablet and surround the same, with a series of prongs projecting from the guard and pref-' can be dropped into a tumbler of water and views, and in which:
dissolved without the necessity. of removing the guard, whereas if the tablet is to be taken internally in a solid form the guard must first be removed from the tablet.
In the further disclosure of the invention reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, constituting a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference denote correspondingparts in all the Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the guard applied to a tablet, looking at the upper side thereof; Fig. 2 is a similar perspective view looking at the under side of the guard; Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken through the tablet and the guard; and Fig. 4 15a -view of the blank from which the guard is formed.
Referring more particularly to the views, I disclose a tablet 10 and which, being of a poisonous nature, preferably has the word Poison suitably inscribed or molded thereon. In order to prevent persons from taking the tablet 10 by mistake I provide a.
blank 11 in the nature of a body which is bent-to provide a series of pointed pron s vices is applied to each tablet and it will be v apparent that if a person endeavors to take the tablet in a solid form the guard must first be removed and furthermore the prongs on the guard will notify a person desiring to take a tablet, particularly in a darkened room or in the night season, that the tablet is of a poisonous nature. If the tablet is to be dissolved in water or some other fluid, it will be apparent that the tablet with the guard thereon can be placed in the tumbler as a unit and the tablet will readily dissolve therein, thus obviating the necessity of entirely removing the guard from the tablet 5n Ease the tablet is to be dissolved in the Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. In combination with a tablet containing poison, a guard comprising a body proa plurality of prongs formed with said body, some of said prongs being bent around said tablet to securely hold said guard thereto.
3. In combination with a tablet containing poison, a guard comprising a body on which said tablet is seated and a plurality of projections formed with said body, some of said projections being bent around and over said tablet to securely hold said guard thereto and others of said projections extending from said body and constituting Warning members.
4. In combination with a tablet containbody, some of said projections being bent around said tablet to hold said guard thereto, others of said projections extending up-' wardly from the periphery of said body and constituting warning prongs and others of said projections extending downwardly from the face of said body and also constituting warning prongs.
6. In combination with a poisonous antiseptic tablet, a guard on which said tablet is seated, a plurality of prongs formed with said guard, some of said prongs bein bent around tablet to hold said guard t ereto and said guard being associated with said tablet to permit of the dissolution of said tablet in a fluid without first removing said guard.
In testimony whereofl aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
