a citizen of the United States, residing at.

Cambridge, in the county of Middlesex and State of lilassachusetts, have invented an Improvement in SandToys, of which the following is a specification.

' This invention has for its object the construction of a sand toy especially adapted for small children to play with in the sand.

The invention comprehends essentially a flexible bag shaped to simulate the distinctive object, such for instance as a rabbit, said bag having a slit at the top, and a flexible funnel attached at its smaller end to the margin of the slit, with which it is coextensive, its flexibility adapting it for. ex: ternal and internal arrangement, and also admitting of holding the object in upright position and of opening the slit to enable the bag to be filled with sand, so that the formation of the object which the bag is intended to simulate will be produced. As a necessary adjunct to my device, I attach thereto, by means of a flexible connection, a spoon or other implement by which the bag may be filled with sand.

out and secured together to simulate a rabbit, which is the distinctive object here shown for illustrating my invention. In this ternally, as shown in Fig. 3, and to be tucked into the bag, out of sight, as shown in Fig. 1. When arranged externally it will be use-d as a handle'to hold the object in up-,

right position, and also to open the slitto permit of the bag being filled with sand,

and also to direct the sand into the bag.

lVhen arranged internally it isnot only concealedbut may serve as a closure for the openingwhen the bag is filled. A-spoon 1.6, is provided which is connected with the bag by a flexible cord, tape, or ribbon 1 8, which connecting-means is of suitable length to allow the manipulation of the spoon while filling the'bag with sand; and said spoon when ,made of a length somewhat shorter than the lengthof the bag, may be placed bodily in the bag for shipment, the bag at such time being flattened, as shown in Fig. 2. The spoon, however, may be made of any slze.

I claim:

1. A. sand toy consisting of a flexible bag shaped to simulate a distinctive object, having a slit at the top, a' flexible funnel attached to the margin of the slit, and co-extensive therewith, its flexibility adapting it for external and internal arrangement,for

holding the object in upright position and for openingthe slit, and sure therefor.

2. Asa-nel toy consisting of a flexible bag shaped to simulate a distinctive object, having a slit at the top, a flexible funnel attached to the margin of the slit, and co for forming a cloextensive therewith, and a spoon connnected with said bag by a flexiblefconnection.

3. A sand toy consisting of a flexible bag shaped'to simulate adistinctlve object, having a slit at the top, a flexible funnel attached to the margin of the slit, and co-extensive therewith, and a spoon connected with said bag by a flexible connection, said spoon being shorter than the length of the bag, to enable it to be placed'therein.
