FILLER-PROTECTOR FOR EGG-GASES.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ERNEST E. MOLLEN- HOFF, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stanton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Filler-Protectors for Egg-Cases, of which the follows ing is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to filler protectors for egg cases and has for its principal Ol)]t the production of a protector which may first be placed within an egg case and then the fillers may be placed within the protector thereby protecting the fillers and thus preventing the same from injury.

Another object of this invention is the production of a filler protector for egg cases which is so formed as to allow the flaps thereof to be folded to assume a very compact position when it is desired to ship or store a number of the filler protectors when not in use but which may be easily set up for receiving the filler.

Still another object of this invention is the production of a filler protector for egg cases which comprises a plurality of flaps integrally connected with each other and supported upon an efficient pad so as to prevent the eggs from being broken in shipping.

With these and other objects in view this invention consists of certain novel combinations, constructions, and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawing :-Figure 1 is a detailed perspective view of an egg casing partially broken away, showing a number of the filler protectors in use. Fig. 2 is a sectional view through a portion of an egg casing and one of the filler protectors, illustrating the manner in which the filler protectors fit in position for use. Fig. 3 is a detailed perspective view of one of the filler protectors, setup for use. Fig. 4; is a detailed perspective view of one of the filler protectors, illustrating the same partially closed. Fig. 5 is a central transverse section through one of the filler protectors showing the same in a folded position. Fig. 6 is a plan view of the blank from which the flaps and body portion thereof are formed.

of the filler protector which has the flaps 2 formed integral thereon and extending at right angles thereto. This central body 1 is secured to the hollow pad 3 which is also rectangular in shape and which has its interior filled with a packing l to form a cushion pad. The body 1 is held in engagement with the pad 3 by any suitable adhesive material thereby forming a one piece structure. When it is desired to ship a number of these filler protectors or when it is desired to store the same, when not in use, the flaps 2 may be folded downwardly so as to rest upon each other upon the body 1 so as to assume the position disclosed in Fig. 5. Nhen in this folded position a number of the filler protectors may be placed upon each other so as to asume a very com pact position allowing the same to be easily packed. IVhen, however, it is desired to use the filler protector the flaps may be swung upwardly as is disclosed in Fig. 4 and then as shown in Fig. 3 at which time the filler protector may be placed within one end of an egg case at 5 at which time the fillers which comprise the egg cells, may be placed within the filler and the eggs placed therein. The cushion construction of the pad 3 will allow the same to give when the weight of the eggs rest upon the body 1 while the flaps 2 will engage the fillers for protecting the side edges of the fillers for allowing the fillers to be taken from the egg case without being torn or broken which is of course, accomplished after the eggs have been removed.

From the foregoing description it will be seen that a simple and eflicient filler protector has been produced for use with egg cases which may be quickly set up and placed within an egg casing for receiving the fillers 5 thereby preventing the eggs from being broken and which is provided with a cushion pad which will easily yield when the eggs engage the same thereby deadening the impact when the casing is dropped upon a hard floor or set upon a hard surface. In the use of these filler protectors it will be seen that the eggs carried by the fillers adjacent the casing walls will be protected by the flaps 2 thus preventing the eggs from being broken.

Since the flaps fit upon the inner surfaces of the egg case, the side edges of the fillers will engage the fiaps, therefore the fillers will not catch upon the sides of the case and may be easily removed from the case without being torn or injured.

It is obvious that many minor changes may be made in the detail construction of this invention without departing from the spirit of the same and it is therefore desired to include all such devices as come within the scope of the device as claimed.

What I claim is a A filler protector for egg cases comprising a central body, flaps formed upon said body, and extending at right angles thereto, said flaps being adapted to be bent upwardly to allow their side edges to engage each other thereby forming a protector for receiving a plurality of fillers and eggs, a'hollow'pad fixedly secured to the under'surface of said body, packing material carried within the hollow portion of said pad for forming a cushioned pad whereby the pad will support a plurality of fillers and eggs and will deaden the impact when the casing is set upon a hard surface, thereby preventing eggs from being broken.
