Description

0; FINETTE.
ANCHOR BRACKET.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 5, 1914.
Patented Feb. 15, 1916.
THE COLUMBIA Puu loaluPl-l co., WASHINGTON, D. c,
UNTT CHARLES FINETTE, OF AURORA, ILLINOIS.
ANCHOR-BRACKET.
Application filed May 5, 1914.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, CHARLES Frnn'r'rn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Aurora, in the county of Kane and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in AnchonBrackets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in anchor brackets, and has for its principal object to provide a device which will effectively hold the sills on foundations.
Another object of the invention is to provide an anchor bracket which is provided with a flange at its lower terminal by means of which the bracket is firmly held in the foundation.
A further object of the invention is to provide a suitable anchor bracket which may be used at corners.
lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts which will be fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure l is a perspective view of a foundation and fragment of a sill showing the anchor bracket as it would appear when in use, Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the device clearly illustrating the detail construction thereof.
Referring now to the drawings by characters of reference, the numeral 1 designates as an entirety the foundation of the building having the usual sills, designated by the numeral 2, on the upper face thereof.
The anchor bracket which is designated generally by the numeral 3, is shown in place and is arranged to be embedded in the foundation and is secured to the sills by means of the lag screws or bolts 4:. This anchor bracket 3 comprises the main body portion 5 having formed at its upper extremity the reduced extension 6. Both the body portion and the reduced extension are bent angularly and are arranged to be used at the corner of the building. At the lower terminal of the body portion is provided a suitable outstanding flange 7 which is arranged to form the anchoring means by which the device is held in place in the foundation.
It will be apparent from the foregoing that in use the anchor brackets are embedded in the foundation as clearly illus- Copies of this patent may be obtained for Specification of Letters Patent.

trated in Figs. 1 and 2, and the sills are then laid on the foundation and the lag screws passed through their respective apertures and into the sills, thus firmly holding the sills to the foundation.
It will also be apparent that the anchor brackets are secured to the sills in assembled position, thereby obviating the necessity of the use of nails coupling plates or the like for this purpose.
In practice a portion of the foundation is first laid. The corner brackets are then properly positioned upon the laid portion of the foundation, after which the balance of the foundation is laid. The attaching portions of the anchor brackets extend above the upper side of the foundation, and form a gage or guide for the laying of the sills 2, it being only necessary to place the sills against the inner sides of the attaching portions. To secure the sills in assembled position and to anchor them to the foundation, it is only necessary to use the lag screws or bolts, which pass through the attaching portions of the anchor brackets and enter the sills.
As the anchor brackets are angular in cross section no horizontal strain or stress placed upon the sills 2 will be transferred to the lag screws or bolts, and as the sills 2 rest directly upon the foundation, no vertical strain or stress can be applied to the lag screws or bolts.
While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention, it is to be understood that such changes may be made in the combination and arrangement of parts which will fall within the spirit and scope of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
A bracket for anchoring sills to a foundation and securing the sills in assembled position, comprising an angular body portion and a base flange embedded in the foundation, an angular attaching portion extending above the foundation and means securing the sills to the angular attaching portion.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES FINETTE.
