Description
JM. www5 lwzgnwizw Refrgerufan l y 1171214 Y Wf- PATENT@ JUL18 1871 portion of the refrigerator.
UNITED S'rA'rns PA'rNT MARY A. THORNTON, OF PERRYSBURG, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN PHOTOGRAPHERS REFRIGERATORS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Mrs. MARY A. THORNTON, of Perrysburg, in the coimty of Wood and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Photographers Refrigerator; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in -a refrigerator for the'use of photographers in keeping and preserving their chemicals in proper condition and convenient for use 9 and it consists inV a chest or box divided by partitions into compartments arranged as hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure .1 represents a vertical longitudinal section of the refrigerator taken on the line a' x of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-section of Fig. l taken on the line y y.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This refrigerator is divided into four compartments, two of which open from the top and two from the front.
A is the ice-chamber, which occupies the lower B is a compartment for keeping such chemicals as require to be kept c'ool. These two chambers are separated by the perforated partition G. D is a compartment for the nitrate-of-silver bath-tub, and E (at the 0pposite end) is a receptacle for the collodion with which the plate is coated before it is immersed in the nitrate-of-silver solution.
It is well known to photographers that heat, or any temperature above about 500 will cause collodion to ferment, and greatly injure it for use in the photographic art. The other chemicals used it is necessary to keep in a cool place in order to preserve them in a condition suitable for use. The ordinary domestic refrigerator is not arranged so as to make it convenient for the purpose. 'By my arrangement of the compartments the chemicals belonging to the photographic art are kept in situations most convenient for use, and at the proper temperature.
F F are doors in the top of the refrigerator, for giving access to the collodion and nitrate-ofsilver compartments. G G are doors in the front for giving access to the chambers A and B. All the compartments are lined with zinc, and the walls and doors are formed to prevent radiation and exclude the outer atmosphere.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by'Letters Patent- The arrangement of the compartments A, B, D, and E, in a refrigerator, substantially as and for the purposes herein shown and described.
MRS. MARY A. THORNTON. Vitnesses:
A. L. FOWLER, WM. GRABB.
