HOSE-SUPPORTER.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 11, 1916.
Application filed February 25, 1915. Serial No. 10,479.
To all 'whom 'it may conce-rn vention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
--This invention relates to improvements in 'fhose supportersy and more particularly to that type which are adapted to be fastened around the leg and worn below theknee such as are usually employed by men.
The object of the invention is to provide a hose supporter of this character which is so1 constructed that-it will readily conform to the shape of the leg of the wearer and which has an elastic portion so positioned that. it will be disposed on, the flat inner face of the leg when the device is applied, so that the tension on said elastic portion will be the same throughout its width and thus prolong the'life of said elastic portion.
Another object of the invention is to so construct and connect the elastic portion of the garter` or hose supporter that it can be4 quickly removed and a new portion substituted whenfworn or otherwise injured, and which is -quickly adjustable to adapt the supporters to t legs of diferent sizes.
i5-@su jected to an uneven tension at the lower With these and other objects in View, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, and theA combination and arrangement-of parts as will be more fully described and claimed.
Inthe accompanying drawings: Figure 1 represents a perspective view of this imrced/garter applied. Fig. 2 is a horizont9, Sec/tion thereof.
Wth the elastic garters of the type above orth, the elastic leg encircling band is part or edgeffasthe band encircles the leg at the greatest'circumference and therefore the lower threads are the `rst to break and as -these continue to break from the bottom to lthe top, theflgarter slipsdown and sooner or later becomes useless as a supporter.
In the embodiment illustrated, this 1m- I A'proved,st lpporter comprises a substantially triangular tab or pad 1 which is preferably made-of-.soft leather and in the drawings is shown as provided with a pocket 2 equlpped points-7 and 8 or corners of the pad 1 are shown oppositely disposed anda soft leather stra p 9 is secured to one of said points being here shown stitched thereto. The strap 9 is of a length designed to encircleabout threefourths of the circumference of the leg of the wearer and detachably secured to the free end thereof'is an elastic loop 10, said loop being here shown composed of a strip of elastic webbing folded transversely midway its ends and with its free ends inserted between the jaws of a clamping member 11 mounted on the free end of the leather strip 9. A. hook 12 is shown mounted on the loop 10 being here shown mounted on a. slotted plate 13 through the slot of which the elastic webbing constituting the loop is passed, as' shown clearly in Fig. 2. Secured to the point or corner 8 of the pad 1 is an eye 14C designed to receive the hook l2 whereby the loo) ll0 is detachably connected with said pa 1.
When it is desired to adjust the loop lOvto adapt the supporter to fit legs of different sizes, all that is necessary is to open the jaws of the clamp 11 and position the ends of the strip forming said loop to lengthen or shorten the loop according to the wishes of the user, andy should for any reason this loop become worn or injured, it may be readilv removed and a new one substituted simply by opening the jaws of the clamp 11, removing the ends of the strip constituting the loop, slipping off the slotted plate 13 which carries the hook 12, then inserting said plate on another piece of elastic webbing, and inserting the ends thereof in the jaws of the clamp 1l and closing said clamp, and the device will be ready for use.
As shown in Fig. 1 when this improved supporter is in use, the padl will be positioned on the outer side of the leg with the elastic loop disposed on the inner fiat side of the leg so that the tension on said loop will be equal through its width and thus prevent undue strain on either ofA the edges of said loop, such as would cause it to quickly wear out in the manner above described.
Gil
The strip 9 'being composed of soft leather Would readily conform to the shape of the leg of the user.,
The pads 1 of both of the garters may be equipped with pockets-.as above described,
or oney only of each pairmay have such av vpocket and saidpocket may beused for thereof is designed to prolong the lifeof the' supporter beyond that which is Vconstructed Wholly of elasticjvebbing.
l claim as lmy invention:
1. A hose supporter comprising a pad, a stocking engaging member carried thereby, an inelastic strip secured at one end to said pad and an elastic strip adjustably yconnected' with the free Vend of said inelastic strip, and meansfor detachably connecting said elastic stripivith said pad. v
2. A hose supporter comprising a pad, a stocking engaging member'carried thereby, asoft .leather strip secured at one end to said pad and of a length to extend around the greater portion of the circumference of the leg of the wearer, an elastic loop detachably strip, and means for detachably connecting said loop and pad.
3. A hose supporter comprising a substantially triangular member, a leg encir-- member connected at one end to one necting the other end of said member to the connected with the 'free end'of said inner corner of said pad, and hose engaging` v means carried by said pad. y
4. A hose supporter comprising a pad,.a f
stocking engaging member carried thereby,` a vsoft leather strip secured at one endtof said pad, a clamp secured to the free end' elastic strip folded transof said strip, an
the free ends versely to form a loop with thereof inserted in said clamp,
plate slidably mounted on said loop andha v a slotted Y' ing a fastening element thereon,Vanda.y cooperating fastening element on said pad.
