Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Bee. 232i, i315.
Application filed October 22, 3914. Seial No. $367,556.
To all whom it may concern.' y
Be 1t known that I, LoUIs MANDEL, e
'citizen of the Unitedv States, residing at Chicugo,.in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in FilnrRoll Holders,
Vof' whichthe-following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in film roll holders, or ilin pack, for holding 'flexible films when used in ribbon forni,
Whe-roby the film may he placed in the czimera in dgiyhght, and from Whlch holder the y' film may fed is needed, when the camereJ 1s being'used for p hotograi'ihie purposes.
A further yohject is to provide :in improved holder of thisv character having means whereby the ilm will be protected from the Arr'light raysivhich have a tendenc'5Y to enter proved device othiseharecter, which W on line 1 1, Figz.
sectional view taken, on line showing only one of the memhers of the an aperture lin the wall of the casing of the holder, and whichfopening is provided for the purpose or' attaching the operating means to the spool.
- A further object is to provide an improved holder of this character having means :tor protect the ihn asit is drown out of the holder. v
A further object is tovprovide on I. be simple, durable, iight, compnet and e reep in construction. and etleetive and eficient opera tion.
To the attainment of these ends, the accomplishment of other neer end useful oh ]ects as will appear, the invention consists in the eetnresiof novelty in suhstentieiv the. construction, combination and :arrange mentof the several parts hereinafter moi verticiii g. :ind
cnsino. Fi". 3 is :i vertical sectionni View the lilni roll lor spool, Fig. 4 is verticei sectional View of another form of one of the i oesirig'meinhers. Fig. 5 is n. View similar to Fig. l of :i modified `form o' the invention.
Fig. (i is a, detail vertical sectional view of y still another form of' the invention.
Referring more purticuhiriv to the dreiving and in the present exempliicsti n of film roll or spool is arranged. The .iiini ioll this invention, the numerals 1G and 1i desi fmito opposed casing members 1n which' of the casing inenibe n the end of the body l or spool comprises a. body 12 having secured to one end thereof e flung@ 13, and in the forms oiE the invention shown in Figs. l and 3, the opposite end of the body is reduced as at 1J: to form a projecting portion, adapted to extend through an opening l5 in the wall r l0.- A fiange V16 is provided with en offset portion 17 which is adapted to receive the end of the body. adjacent the reduced portion 1% and this oset portion the .thingie 16 is provided with un opening' i8, 'through which the reduce-:i portion li projects, and both of the finnges 13 and i6 may oe secured to the body in any desired or suitebie manner.
Supported by the. wall of theA easing member l0 is 2r pocket element 19, which is pio vinded with on opening; registering with the opening' l5 in the wall and this pocket niember encompasses the ciiiening and is of n size to receive the o'i'set portion of the .flange 16 and .the adjacent end of the spool, to suhstantially the pocket and the` pocket is eiosed h ia ge et' the spool, so that any ligh Birch Wonid have :i tendency to ei 'v .d Contact with the film., thro gh the o; 15, will he arrested s light proof -esnlt, tiierehy pro teoing the him.
i e spooi may lo any suitable menno and in the nre-se rot..,ted, if desired in .ed tor this purpose m of the invention,
is providedk with '1 a or 2 opening Q0 duced portion end n pin 21|. oci-oss the opening.
in order to protect 'the iihn et the point Where it is drown out of the casing, there is uigei'iged within the easing an element l lv arranged in one corner thereof, irovided with fr slot or ich regrn i n Wall ch opening ond slot the end through oni i i Elin 25 posses fis t is drown 'i rom the spool.
The wel s of this slot or kerl? are lined with :my suitable soii't flexible nmterini, such for instance fis velvet or other fabric, ond which easing; meint-er if.;
'i' extenos through the re- I.
spect provided with anlcutwardly projecting odi-" set portion 29 havi andV this portion 2Q c eiving the end of pocket 1 9.
In Fig.
an opening 30 therein, .ormp the pocket for re the spool, siinila'r to the 3, the 'casing member 10 is yvided w1th;.the opening-15, and secu to the wall o f the casing. is, an element 31 which .is provided with an opening 32 there through and registering with the openihg- 15, and theelement 32 nia be formed on the casing wall in any suita le manner. In
this form of the invention, the flange 33 This pocket in the offset portion 34 is .pro-
' vided with an opening 37 therethrough registering with the openinghBQ and a corresponding opening 38 on t e spool body 36, to receive an Aactuating velement whichis adapted to engage the pin 39 assing through the opening 38. With this orm of theinvention, it will be manifest that the element 31'may be of lany desired size or height so as to permit the flange 33 of the spool to stand in any desired position with `relation to the wall of the casing member 10, and the klight rays will be arrested in this form of the invention as efficiently as in the form shown in Fig. 1.
In Fig. 6 the casing member 40 which corresponds with the casing member 28` is formed in a manner similar to that shown in Fig. 4 with the exception that the offset portion 41 of the casing member 40 is delected inwardly so as to enter the pocket formed in the offset portion 34 of the flange 33, and the deflected portion-t1 is formed integral with the casing member 40 instead of se arately `therefrom and being attached there o. Ifdesired and in order to provide an additional security'I against the entrance of light rays-into the asipg, a ,third vcasing member 42 may be provided as shown in Figs. 1 and 5.
While the preferred forms oftheinven-` tion have been herein shown and described, it is to be understood that various changes may be made in the details of constructionf and the combination and arrangement of the several parts without departing from the spirit of this invention.
`While in the specification and claims this inve/ntion is referred to as being adapted for' use with films, it is to beunderstood that the term film is to be used in itsbroadest sense and to includey any flexible sensitized material in ribbon form. u
