CALVIN A. ewe-Er, or Yaun'ron, sonrrr han ra HANGER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CALVIN A. SWEET, a citizen of the United States, residing at Yankton, in the county of Yankton and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in'Hangers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in hangers and more particularly to the class designed for the purpose of suspending telephone cables, from what is commonly called a messenger cable, it being understood, however, in this connection that the hanger may be used for'suspending cable other than the telephone cable from a support, other than the messenger cable.
The object of the present invention is the provision of a hanger of the above character which is of such construction that it can be readily applied to or detached from a support without the use of any tools.
A further object ofthis invention is the above type in construction and operation.
With the above and other objects in view, this invention consistsin the novel features of constructionand the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, pointed out inthe claim and shown in the accompanying drawings, in
. which Figure 1 is a front elevation of a hanger constructed in accordance with my invention and illustrating the application of the same;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation ,F ig. 3 is a top plan view. a a e Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral 10 indicates a messenger cable, below which is suspended the telephone cable 11 by means of the hanger 12.
These hangers-are formed from a single strand of wire bent to produce an inclined body portion 13, the lower end thereof being curved to provide an attaching eye 14. The opposite end of this body portion 13 is bent to form a curved loop or supporting convolution 15, the terminal of which is rea curved, as at 16, to producea terminal convolution 17 arrangedin spaced relation with Specification. of Letters Patent. Application filed fictoberfl 291a connection. with .varioususes to which Patented @ct, 12,1915. SerialNof/QSQBO. r
the supporting convolution 15 and adapted to rest upon the upper face of the messenger cable. a Y
The convolutions 15 and 17 are spaced apart a distance slightly greater than the diameter of the messenger cable 10, as clearly shown in the drawing, for a purpose which Wlll be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the application of my improved hanger, the same is attached to the cable 11 1n the following manner :The flexible attaching members 18 are passed through the attaching eye 14 and looped around the cable 11. The attachment of the messenger cable 10 is made in the following way :The axis of the convolutions 15 and 17 is turned at right angles to the axis of the messenger senger cable 10, and the hanger with cable 11 attached allowed to take its natural position as shown in the accompanying drawlngs, convolution 15 resting on the top side of messengercable 10.
From the foregoing description taken in ings, it willbe obvious that a hanger of the nature described is provided which will ful fil all of the necessary requirements of such a device. ings, the convolution 17 can be arranged upon either side of the convolution 15 as the will necessitate.
While I have shown anddescribed the preferred form of my invention, it will be ob vious that various changes in the details or construction and in the proportions may be resorted to for successfully carrying myinvention into practice without sacrificing any of the novel features or departing from the scope of the appended claim.
WVhat I claim is F a A hanger including a body, a helical convolution formed at one end thereof, that porpass- As shown in Fig. 1 of the draw the hanger is to be put the accompanying drawtion of the convolution which is adapted to In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my sliistain thelpull .upflm htheO laanger beifng 11gl signature in the presence of two Witnesses. t e same p ane Wit t e 0 y thereo an V an eye formed at the other end of the loody, CALVIN W said eye being disposed in the plane of the Witnesses: body member and at right angles to the axis MAUDE CURRY, aboutwhich the convolution is Wound. I V THYRA ROYERN.
