A. J. SEYBERT.
WRENCH.
APPLICATION FILED AUG-26,1915.

Witness N ANDREW J. SEYIBERT, OF EAST BRADY, PENNSYLVANIA.
WRENCH.
Application filed August 26, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ANDREW J. SEYBERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at East Brady, in the county of Clarion and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wrenches, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in wrenches and more particularly to what is known as oil well wrenches adapted to be used for supporting and rotating drill and other tools used in connection with oil wells. the object being to provide a wrench with a removable jaw mounted on rollers within a head in such a manner that the same will rotate freely.
Another object of my invention is to improve a construction of this class of wrench by providing a head with upwardly pro.- jecting ears to which the arms of the lever are pivotally connected. in order to allow the head to swing in respect to the lever.
Another object of my invention is to provide a' wrench. which is exceedingly cheap in construction, the jaw being mounted within the head in such a manner that the same can be readily removed in order to insert jaws of different shape if desired.
Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter set forth and the novel features thereof defined by the appended claims.
In the drawings :Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention, Fig. 2 is a section taken on line 22 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is an inverted plan view of the wrench.
Like numerals of reference refer to like parts in the several figures ofthe drawings.
In carrying out my invention I employ a ring shaped head member 1, which is pro vided with a hexagonal depending flange 2, one side of which is cut away to form an opening as clearlyshown, said opening extending through the ring portion. The ring portion 1 is provided with oppositely disposed upwardly projecting ears 3, to which are pivotally connected the arms 4, of a forked lever 5, a pivotal connection being formed by a bolt 6, as clearly shown, in order to allow the lever to be readily attached or detached therefrom. The lever is provided with a bail 7, to which a supporting cable is adapted to be connected in the well known manner. A. detachable han- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented 0ct.5,1915. Serial No. 47,436.
the sides of the hexagon flange is .a pivot pin 10, on which is mounted a roller 11 forming a roller support for the lateral projecting flange 12 of a jaw 13 which is formed with a depending flange 14, having oppositely disposed lugs 15, provided with threaded sockets in which handle members 16 provided with threaded ends are detachably mounted, said handle members being arranged in a plane below the de- ,7
pending flange ofthe head in order to allow the same to be turned to rotate the jaw 18.
The jaw 13 ,is secured in position within the head by washers,1-7, arranged on machine screws 18, working in threaded bores formed in the ring 1 and it will be seen i by this. construction, the jaw is mounted upon rollers and held in position by wash ers' in such amanner that the jaw can be readily inserted or detached. The jaw is provided with a detachable jaw face 19 secured in position upon the jaw by machine screws 20, working in threaded bores formed therein as shown in Fig. 2, whereby the face can be readily detached and any shaped jaw face substituted therefor so as to receive various shapes of tools or any other article to be turned.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have provided an oil well wrench having a bifurcated head in which the jaw is revolubly mounted upon rollers in such a manner that an exceedingly strong support for the jaw is formed and in such a manner that the jaw is free to rotate when a drill or other tool has been placed within the jaw face thereof.
What I claim is 1. A wrench of the kind described, comprising a head member having a hexagonal depending flange, one side of said flange being cut away to form an opening, pins extending through the other sides of said flange carrying rollers, and a jaw having a lateral flange mounted upon said rollers.
2. The combination with a head provided with upwardly projecting ears, of a lever provided with arms pivotally connected to said ears, rollers carried by said head, and a jaw revolubly mounted upon said rollers.
8. In a wrench of the kind described, the combination with a head, having a six-sided depending flange, one of said sides being cut away to form an opening, stud pins eX- tending through the other side of said flange, rollers mounted on the inner ends of said studs pins, a jaw having a lateral flange mounted upon said rollers within said head,
means for holding said jaw in position therein, and a forked lever having pivotal connection with said head.
4. In a wrench of the kind described, the combination with a head, of a series of rollers carried by said head, a jaw provided with a lateral flange revolubly mounted upon said rollers within said head, a detachable handle carried by said jaw in a plane below said head, means for securing said jaw within said head, and a lever having a pivotal connection with said head.
5. In a wrench of the kind described, the combination with a ring shaped head having a depending flange, of stud pins extending transversely through said flange, rollers mounted upon the inner ends of said stud pins, a jaw provided with alateral flange arranged within said head and mounted upon said rollers, means for securing said jaw within said head, oppositely disposed ears formed on said ring, a forked lever having its arms pivotally connected to said ears, anddhandles carried by said jaw below said hea 6. In a wrench of the kind described, the combination with a forked lever having a detachable handle, of a head pivotally supand a jaw revolubly mounted upon said rollers within said head.
'8. As a new article of manufacture, an oil well swivel wrench, comprising a ring shaped head having a hexagonal depending flange, one side being cut away to form an opening, pins extending through the sides of said flange, rollers mounted on the inner ends of said pins, a jaw having a lateral flange revolubly mounted upon said rollers, said jaw having an annular depending flange provided with oppositely disposed lugs, handles carried by said lugs, means for securing said pivotal connection with said head.
9. An oil well wrench, comprising a head having upwardly projecting ears, a lever having arms pivotally connected to said ears, rollers carried by said head, a jaw revolubly mounted upon said rollers, handles carried by said jaw in a plane below said head, and a detachable jaw face mounted upon the top of said jaw.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afliX my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
