LEWIS H. SEIFEBT, OF MINERAL RIDGE, OHIO.
TOY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 24, 1915.
Application filed December 17, 1914. Serial No. 877,839.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Luwrs I-I. SEIFERT, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Mineral Ridge, in the county of Trumbull and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in toys in which attractive and interesting movement of a member thereof is imparted by exertion on the part of a child; and the objects of my improvements are, first, to provide a toy that will encourage the young to take exercise in the open air; and, sec- 0nd, to produce such a toy that can be made so cheaply as to place it within the reach of all children.
I attain those objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in whicl Figure 1. is a front view of my invention; and Fig. 2. is a side view of the same.
Similar characters refer to like parts throughout the views.
A handle 1 is provided of convenient length for a childs use, about one yard. Through the handle 1 I bore holes 12 near the lower end of the handle 1, and 14 at a convenient distance above it. Through the hole 12 I pass a carriage bolt 3 and retain it in a horizontal position by a am nut 4. On the protruding end of the bolt 3 I center a wheel 2, intended to roll on the ground,
using the bolt 3 as an aXle for it. To retain the wheel 2 on its axle, the bolt 3, I employ a lock nut 5. In the perimeter of the wheel 2 I provide a groove 15 for the reception and retention of an endless driving belt 11, which passes over a drive pulley 9, having a slmllar groove in its perimeter, and attached to a rotatable fan, 10, which revolves on a carriage bolt 6 passed through hole 1% and held by jam nut 7 and lock nut 8.
In practice a child grasps the handle 1 at its smaller, upper end and by running, rolls the wheel 2 on the ground, thereby causing the brightly painted fan 10 to revolve with great rapidity.
A toy comprising a handle; a rotatable ground wheel revolubly mounted near the lower end of said handle; a revoluble fan mounted on said handle above said wheel; a grooved pulley attached to said fan; a groove in the perimeter of said ground wheel and an endless belt passing over said pulley and said wheel, for the purpose set forth and as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LEWIS H. SEIFERT.
