Description

7 meneer..
' WILLIAM RHONE, 0F ST. LGUIS, BISSUBI.
ENVELOP.
T all :whome' may concern p Be 1t known that l, VVILLJAM F. Known, a
lcitizen ot the United IStates, residing at the cityo St. Louis, State oi" Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful improve-- ment in Envelope, of which the following is a specication, rie-terence being had. to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
This invention relates to a certain new and useful improvement in envelope, the object` of my invention being to provide an envelop, especially adapted and designed for employnient inrailroad business and the like, which may be economically and coi'iveniently used A repeatedly for the carrying of orders, despatches, communications, or other papers to and lbetween dilierent designated depart- .ments or addressees'located in the saine or diere'nt towns or `other places.
-With the above and other lobjects in view, my present invention resides in certain novel features of form, arrangement, construction,
` and combination ofparts, all as will hereinafteri be described and afterward pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which l show my linvention in preferred form, Figure. lis a-iont elevational view of an envelop embodying my invention; Fig.`2 1s 'a rear elevational View of the saineyFig. 3 is a transverse sectionalv view through the same on the line 3-3, Fig. 1; and Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view through the same on the line l-c, Fig. 2. y
Referring to the said drawings, in which like reference characters refer to like parts throughout the several views, A indicates the envelop proper, which is preferably formed from a sheet of paper or other suit-- able flexible material folded lengthwise upon itself to provide a rear wall'l, a front wall 2, and a llap or extension 3 on front wall Q oldable in the finished envelop, to retain the had to Fig. l, front wall 2 is provided with' an extension 4, which folded over and upon rear wall l and glued or otherwise fastened thereto, so as to permanently close that end of the envelop. 'rit the opposite or left-hand end of the-envelop, both walls and 2 are provided with extensions fly-4C', which are also folded over and upon rear wall l and glued or otherwise fastened thereto, so as not only to permanently close that end of ythe envelop, but also to reiniiorce and strengthen walls l and 2 at said end of the envelop.
As seen in. Fig. l, a portion of the front aceof wall 2 of envelop Av is divided by preferably a. plurality of parallel lines 5 into a vertical column or plurality of printing or address-spaces G extending preferably lengthwise of the envelop, in each of which spaces is printed or otherwise inscribed to permanently apli ar upon the envelop A the nameof a paricular town, city, or other ployed as addresses in the present instance lthe names of certain towns or cities.' lt will be understood that the number of such spaces 6 and correspondingly the'nuinber of addresses B may vary, as desired, depending upon the work in which the envelop is to be used, as wellV as also upon the size` of lthe particular envelop. Also printed or otherwise permanently appearing in a vertical column upon the front face of wall 2 of the envelop A, to the left of addresses B, lare the naines, designations, titles, or the like of a plurality of addressees C. For purposes of illustration, I have in the presentk instance used the titles or designations of certain railroad officials. As seen clearly in Fig. l, one or more addressees C are in alinement with each address-space 6, within which space appears a particular address B, the addressees C of, or corresponding to,A a certain address B being preferably, as shown, bracketed to the particular address B. y
Provided in walls l and 2 of envelop A preferably to the left of addressees C and through said reinforced or strengthened portion of said walls, is a plurality oli' suitable perforations or the like D arranged also in a vertical column or columns, there being one perforation D for, and in alineinent with, each particular addressee C. The
number of perforations D accordingly de` llatented flug.. lf3', MM5... Application led January 29, H5. Serial No, El.
the perforations D, when in more than one 1 column, being preferably staggered, for purposes of convenience and to save spaceJwithin the size or limits of the envelop.
' Adapted to be removably passed through the perforationsl) and to be releasably en- -gaged with the envelop A, is a so-called paper-fastener or other suitable addresseeindicating member designed to indicate the particular addressee C to whom the envelop A, with its then contents, is addressed, this member E, in the use of the envelop A, being passed by the user thereof through the particular perforation D in front of the particular addressee C to whom it may be desired that envelop A shall next go. Thus, by passing member E in turn and interchangeably through respective or different perforations D, the envelop A may be readily and quickly properly directed to the proper addressee, whereby, as will be obvious, envelop A may be conveniently used repeatedly until entirely worn out, a great economy being thereby edected. g
Should it be desired to employ envelop A in sending papers, communications, or vthe like to an Iaddressee whose naine or designation does not appear permanently upon the envelop with permanent addressees C, envelopA is Jfurther provided in its front wall 2 with an enlarged or cut-away portion, as at F, the naine or designation of the particular addressee in such event appearing through said opening upon the contents Envelop A is Jfurther. provvided with an additional perforation D-in alinenientvwith. said opening F, through "which perforation said member E is alsop assed to indicate, as mayl adapted' to be then be required, .the addressee of theA env velop.`
a form, 40
v those herein shown and -described without departingy from the nature and spirit of .my
I am aware arrangement,- construction, and combination of the several partsfof my new envelopy may be made and substituted for invention. As shown in Fig. l, additional 4matter or information may appear upon the face of the envelop A, if desired..
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patpapers,
ent is:
1. An envelop of flexible vmaterial for' containing and carrying correspondence, andthe like, said envelop bearing permanently upon its face a plurality' of xed addresses, and an indicating-member for directing the envelop to any particular one of saidl addresses, said member being interchangeably usable with all said addressesand being removably detachable E. This member-E isv be employed with envelop A tol ixed addresses,
that minor changes in the l .from the envelopfwhenindicating any parcontaining and carrying correspondence,l
papers, and the like, said envelop bearing permanentlyupon its face a plurality of for directing the envelop to lany particular one of said addresses, said member .being interchangeably usable with all said ad.-
dresses and extending `removably through,
and being detachably vengaged with, the en-V velopl when indicating any particular one of said addresses. 1
3. An envelopv of flexible material 'for .containing and 4carrying correspondence,
papers, and the like, said envelop bearing permanently upon ,its face a plurality of and an indicating-member xed addresses and being transversely provided'with a plurality of perforations in alineinent respectively withv said addresses,
vand an indicating-membery for directing the to any particular one' of said asienvelop said member' being interchangeably dresses,
.usable with-all 'said addresses and extending removably through the ,particular alining perforation, andv being detachably clenched l upon the envelop, .when indicating any particu'l'ar one of said addresses.
' 4. An envelop 'of exible' materialv for containing and carrying correspondence, papers, and the like, said renvelop being transversely provided with-a plurality of perforations and having a portion or' its face divided into a .plurality of 'addressspaces, a plurality of -ixedaddresses .permanently upon the face of said envelop within said spaces respectively, a'rplurality of lixed addressees also permanently upon the .face of saidv envelop to the left of said addresses, more than one of said addressees being in aline'ment with' said spaces respectively and said perforations being in aline-v ment with saidy addressees, and van indicating inember-for directing the envelop interdetachably clenched. upon the envelop. In testimony whereof, l have signed my naineA to this specification, in the presence changeably to any particular one of said fixed addressees, said member being adapted to bev passed through the perforation in -alineinent with said particular addressee and
