To all 'whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED F. SWAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Jersey City, county of Hudson, New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Trusses, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to improvements in trusses such as are used in the treatment of hernia, and `the objects of my invention are to produce a simple inexpensive truss which can be worn with comfort, to produce a truss in which the pads are readily adjustable so as to bear at exactly the point desired and with the pressure desired, to provide a firm but yielding pressure on the pads so that they will be exceedingly comfortable to the wearer, especially to provide an adjustable support for the pads in order that their pressure may be regulated, and in general to produce a truss which is cheap, comfortable and efficient.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the truss. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof, and Fig. 3 is a detail of the adjustable block which serres as a fulcrum for one of the pad springs.
rhe truss is provided with a plate 10 which serves as a carrier for the pads, and this has slots 11 in which the ends of a waist strap can be inserted, and near one longitudinal edge of the plate are slots 12 in which leg straps can be placed if desired. The truss is provided with pads 13 of any jj referred kind which are adapted to press upon the affected part, and either one or two of these pads can be used as necessary. Each pad 13 is secured by a screw 14 to a. spring arm 1G which extends longitudinally of the truss, and is provided with a longitudinal slot 15 through which the screw 141 extends. Thus the position of the pad can be regulated by means of the screw 111 which can be slid in the slot 15 above referred to.
Each arm 16 is pivoted at its inner end to the plate 10 by a screw 17 which can be e,

It will be seen that the arm 16 may be turned laterally so as to bring the pad which it carries to one side of the plate 10 if desired, and by means of the adjustable features referred to, that is the adjustment of the pad on vits spring arm, the adjustment of the block 18 longitudinally, and the swinging feature of the arm 16, the pad can he brought into the precise position required and made to bear with just the desired amount of pressure.
I claim 1. A truss comprising an essentially rigid plate having means for attachment to the body of a wearer', a spring arm supported on the plate and arranged'longitudinally thereof, a pad carried by the arm, and a fulcrum block sliding on the plate beneath the spring arm.
2. A truss comprising a supporting plate, a longitudinally slotted spring arm secured to the plate, a pad at the free end of the arm, and a fulcrum block sliding on the plate beneath the arm, said block having a guide which enters the slot of the spring arm.
3. A truss comprising an essentially rigid plate, a spring' arm secured near one endV to the plate and extending in a direction generally longitudinal of the plate, and a fulcrum block sliding on the plate beneath the spring arm and having a guided connection with the spring arm.
