MAX M. coHN, or PIEDMoN'r, cALrroRNIA,
LOOSE-LEAFfPAPER DISPENSER .AND CARTON-HOLDER.
T0 all whom t may concerne.'
Be it known that I, MX M. COHN, citizen of the United States, residing at Piedmont, in the county of Alameda and State of California, haveinvented new and useful Improvements in Loose-Leaf-Paper Dispensers and Carton-Holders, of whichk Y the-following is a specification. v y Y This invention relates to a device-forcon,` taining and dispensing paper towels and such articles, and particularly to a holder for towels packed in cartons. Y
The object of mypresent invention is to provide a substantial, yet inexpensive', at-
tractive container for cartons of packed, in-
. terfolded paper towels, and one adapted .to
be readily attached-toa convenient support and from which the towels may be drawnv rapidly and unmutilated.
Another object of this invention ,is to provide a, container .serviceable in either private or public institutions. v
Thisvdevice isi-especially useful with car- /tons of. towels ofthe typeA disclosed in my application for Loose leaf dispenser filed Figures 1 and 2 are perspective viewsl showing one construction of thecontainer. Fig. 3 shows a modification of the invention, being the preferred type. Fig. 4 is a verticalv section of the container without its cover.
The towels or other articles to be dispensed are represented at A. The carton is in the form. of a thin rectangular tube of oblong cross-section, the front and back walls 2 3 having their central portions brought together at top and bottom, as shown respectively at 4 5. At the lower portion of the front is made a horizontal slot 6 through whichV the towels are successively drawn.
The container comprises a bottom portion 7 having a pocket of sufhcient length and width to receive the lower end of the carton; the front edge of the bottom registering with the lower edge of the withdrawal slot 6. The bottom has an upwardly extending back 8 perforated at 9 to permit of being hung or screwed to ,a suitable support.
Specification. of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. e, i915.
Application med oetober 7, 1914. serial No. $65,481,
The bottom portion 7 of the holder and the back 8 support a curved inclined bottom rest10 for the corresponding wedge! like portion 5 of the carton and maintain the carton and holder in proper relation so as to insure a proper feed of towels through` the withdrawal slot. The upper end of the backy isbent'over to form a hook 11 to receive and cover the connected upper edge 4 ofthe' carton. Under some circumstancesth'i's'hook may be dispensed with kas the car-V l tonis usually stiffenough to stand alone in the holder. i
When a loaded carton has been placed in the bottom 7 .and the latter hung up, the towels may be drawn out without danger of dislodging the-carton from the holder and often this device is su'liicient forpractical purposes, especially for domestic use. If the'device is to be installed in a public establishment, however, for the dispensing of towels to the transient public, the carton is preferably concealed by a cover 12, having V'a front panel 13 which may be utilized as an v advertising space, or otherwise. The cover may or may notbe closed at the back, since the back ofthe carton is concealed/.anyhow. It may be' hinged to the bottom section 7 ,-asvshown at 14, Fig. 3, or it may be loosely slipped over the carton kand freely removable, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. `In
any. case a withdrawal Aslot 15 is formed,
which yis adapted to register with the withdrawal slot 6 in the carton. Preferably this slot 15 is formed by the respective coperating bottom and top front edges of the cover 12 and bottom 7 When the device is assembled, with a carton in place, a towel A is presented through the registering openings 15 and 6 ready for withdrawal in the usual fashion. To recharge the holder'it is only necessary to `open or remove the cover, take out the emptied carton, and insert a fresh loaded one, closing the cover and locking it, if desired.
Having thus described my invention,
what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- 1. A holder for loose leaf containing cartons having withdrawal slots, consisting of a pocket which when the carton lower end engages therein has the top edge of its front wall disposed adjacent the slot, a back projecting upwardly from the pocket, and means borne by the back to engage the top 7 tons having withdrawal slots consisting ofv part of the carton to secure the latter tothe holder. Y
2. A holder for loose leaf containing 'cartons having withdrawal slots 4consisting of a case composed of a lower receptacle adapted to receive the carton bottomand to allow the carton slot vto be exposed above its top and a top part which has av lowerportion that coperates with the lower receptacle to form a withdrawal slot that registers with the'carton slot.v f v 3. A holder-for loose leaf containing cara two-part case having portions which cooperate to form a slot that registers with the carton slot, one of the parts being adapted to inolose the top and the other the bottom 0f the carton. 1- A.
i 4. A carton retainer consisting ofa holder having apocket and a back projecting'V above Y the pocket, means in the pocket which autos matically upon the carton contactingthere with moves `the llatter against thepocket front, and means borne by the back to engage the upper end of the carton to support the said upper'carton end' so that the holder` mav Ybe usedwith or without a cover.
tons that haveinclined bottoms consisting of a .receptacle7 means in the receptacle toV engage said carton bottom to automatically move and. guide same `toward and against the receptacle front and to sustain samey against said front,"and means secured tol the back of the receptacle to engage the top `of the carton to hold the latter against the backrof the receptacle.
6. A carton retainer consisting of .a holderV with a pocket into which an end of the car-v ton maybe placed and having an upwardly y extending back, and means at the top of said back for engaging and supporting the top of the carton. c
7 A holder for loose leaf containing cartons for use either with or without a cover.
consisting of a bottom receptacle having an elongated back for securement to a support and having a cover movably connected to the receptacle and to the upper end part. of`
the back and means independent` of the cover to support the carton in the pocket.
j 8. A holder for loose leaf containing cartons lthat have withdrawal'slots consisting of yapair of telescopic 'upper and lower ref ceptacles which coperateto inelose'the car-- ton and. which have free portionsfat. their Y fronts that are spaced and conj ointly form a slotin the front vertical face of the holder Y forregister with the' carton slot.
9. A holder for loose leaf containing cartons'havingV withdrawal slots yconsisting of a :bottom receptacle having yan elongated` vertical back and a cover having a front the lower vedge of whichv is spaced above the topV edge-of the front side ofthe receptacle ,to
Q y form a slot adapted tos-register with the 5. A'holder'for loose leaf containing vcarcarton slot and having -sides which engage Y which connects with'the upper end ofl saidv In' testimonyzwhereofhave hereunto'set C'opies of this patent: may be obtained for v cents each,` 'py addressingthe Commissioner of Patents, Washington, D.
