Description

H. P. RICHMOND & T. E. CARPENTER.
Improvement in FingenR'ings. N ]]4 856' Patented May16,187|.
(lliillllllliib RHlIIIIIIIIW WITNESSES. INVENTORS;
' dint-ted $121M- gatwt dlljlina HENRY-P. RICHMOND AND THOMAS E. CARPENTER, OF PROVIDENCE,
RHODE ISLAND- Letters Patent No. 114,856, dated May 16, 1871.
IMPROVEMENT IN FINGER-RINGS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, HENRY P. RICHMOND and THOMAS E. CARPENTER, both'of the' city and county of Providence, in the State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Jointless Finger-Ring; and we do hereby declare that the following specification, taken in connection with the drawing making a part of the same, is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
Figure 1 is a section of the inner ring or filling.
Figure 2 is a View of the outer ring without the filling.
'Figure 3 is a section and top view, showing the filling within the ring.
Figures 4 and 5 show a section and top, respectively, of the finished ring.
Our invention relates more particularly to what is known to the trade as plain filled finger-rings, and consists in so making the outer ring and the filling, and so combining the two parts thus made, that the usual soldered joint will be entirely dispensed with.
' Manufacturers of jewelry have heretofore experienced great difliculty in making filled rings in a satisfactory manner, 'owing to the liabilityof the joint to show after being in use a short time. We entirely overcome this difliculty by constructing our ring in the manner hereinafter'dcscribed.
We take a small brass or composition ring to be used as a filling, a section of which is shownin fig. 1, and solder it together in the'usnal way. We then strike out, by means of a suitable die, an outer ring, as shown in fig. 2, having one edge curved toward the center. We then place the filling within the outer ring, as shown in fig. 3, andin any suitable way bend down the remaining edge, thus making the ring oval, as shown in figs. 4 and 5.
What we claim as our invention, and desire, to se cure by Letters Patent, isg A jointless finger-ring, constructed in the manner substantially as described.
HENRY P. RICHMOND.
Witnesses: THOMAS E. CARPENTER.
