`Be itknown that I, SAMUEL HERBERT, a citizen of the United States of America, residing'. at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful' Improvements in Car- Roofs, of which the following is a specificacoxn anying drawings.
The invention relates to car roofs and more particularly to that type in which the spaces between the carlines are covered by metallic roofing sheets, forming not only a Water-proofing, ni'eans-but also the loadsustaining members. With such constructions it is essential to securely fasten the plates at the eaves, and itis usual to accomplish this by bolts, nails or clips engaging the depending flanges lat the eaves and passing through the fascia sheathing and into or through the side plate ot the car. Such a construction forms an eective securing means, but it has been found in 'use that rain water Will occasionally pass through the aperture for the bolt or nail and find access to the interior of the car. lt is not necessary thatthe Water should pass through the plate,but merely to pass through the fascia and sheathing to the line of the inner face of the siding, Where it will drop down and enter the interior of the `vation thereof; and Fig. 3 is a section on line --m ot' Fig. l.
