Specification of Letters Patent.

Application flied November 3, mm. itemawtnfimdew.
I To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, JAMES A. Fpnnnn, a citizen of the United "States, residing at Providence, in theoounty of Providence and trates the necktie so as to hold same in position and which also serves as an article of jewelry.
A further object of the invention is to provide a necktie fastener which embodies a clasp which latter has the pin secured thereto, so that the clasp acts as an anchor for the pin and the pin acts to prevent loss of the clasp, in event of the latter having its jaws disengaged from the shirt.
lln the drawings Figure 1 is a frontelevation of the invention as in use. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the invention. Fig. 3 is a section on the line 33 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is an enlarged section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3, and Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 3, showing the lock for the'pin in open position.
The clasp 1 may be of any desired construction, and one of the jaws thereof is provided with an open-ended sleeve or socket 2 slotted at 3. The ornamental pin has a head 4: and a shank 5 which latter is circularly grooved at 6. When the, pin is in normal position it occupies the posltion shown in Fig. 4, in which its inward movement is restricted by. engagement with the other of the clasp jaws, and when in the aforementioned position, the groove 6 registers with the slot 3 of the sleeve 2. A looking member 7 is pivoted at 8 and is receivable within the slot 3 and also in the groove 6 of the pin shank 5 so that when so engaged with the pin shank, the latter will be locked against outward movement, as is apparent from Fig. 4 of the drawings.
For the purpose of moving the locking member into and out of locking position, a
cam member 9 is employed which is pivoted at 10 and has a cam edge 11 which moves the member 7 into locking position and a finger 12 which moves the member 7 out of locking position as ,will be apparent from inspection ofsFigs. 3 and 5 of the drawings. 4
depicted in Fig. 5, so as to move the locking member 7 to inoperative or unlocked position. As soon as the pin has been placed in the socket 2, the handle of the cam member 9 is then moved to the position illustrated in Fig. 3 in which position the cam 11 will rock the member 7 so as to move the latter into locking position, in which position, member 7 is moved into the slot 3 and in the circular groove 6 of the pin shank.
It will thus be apparent that even should the clasp jaws be pulled away from the shirt, the clasp will still be supported by the pin, thereby preventing possible loss of the clasp, and the clasp in turn acts as an anchor for the pin while still allowing the latter to be displayed in connection with the necktie.
The device thus serves not only as a loss preventing means for the pin of the necktie, but also serves by reason of the presence of the clasp to hold the necktie against lateral movement.
.Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patnt;
1. In combination with a member having an open-ended socket with a transverse slot therein, a pin having a groove formed in its shank for registry with the slot of the socket, a locking member pivoted to said member and engageable in the slot and in the groove to lock the pin, and a cam member pivoted to said member for actuating the locking member, said cam member having a cam edge to force the locking member to locking position, and having a finger to engage the locking member to move the latter to unlocked position.
2. In combination with a sooketed element and apin receivable in the socket thereof, said pin having a groove, a pivoted locking member on the element receivable in the groove, and a pivoted cam member for moving the first member to locking position, said cam member having means to move the first member out of locking position when the cam member is moved in one direftion.
'3. In combinationwith a supporting element and a pin engageable therewith, a pivoted member engageable" with the pinto lock the latter to the element, and pivoted means inter-engaged with said member in all movements of the latter for moving the member into and out of engagement with the pin.
4. In combination with a supporting element and a pin engageable therewith, a pivoted member engageable with the pin to look the latter to the element, and pivoted means having a cam to engage the member to move the latter into locking engagement with the pin when said means is moved in one direction and having a finger engageable with the member to move the latter out of lock ing position when said means is moved in name to this specification in the presence of 30 two subscribing witnesses.
