To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY KAIsER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Holstein, in the county of Calumet and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fruit-Jan Cap Sealers, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in sealing devices for fruit jars, and more particularly to that class of fruit jars which have metal tops that screw on and rest upon a rubber ring or gasket on the neck of the jar.

The objects of my invention are to provide a device which will straighten and smooth the lower edge of a fruit jar cover or cap thereby causing the said cover to fit closely against the rubber ring placed upon the top or neck of the ordinary fruit jar, thereby preventing leakage or the ingress or egress of air or gas to the injury of the contents of the jar. And further objects are to provide a device which can be quickly and easily applied to and removed from any of the ordinary fruit jar caps. I accomplish these objects by means of the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,

Referring specifically to the drawings, 1 is a triangular shaped plate having a pair of downwardly extending clamping lugs 2, for engagement with the top of a fruit jar cover or cap, 3. Pivotally attached to the under side of plate 1, as at 4, is a clamping bar 5, having a downwardly extending lug 6, at its free end for engagement with the upper circumferential edge of the cover or cap of the ordinary fruit jar. A thumb piece 7, projects upwardly from the bar 5, sufficiently to enable said bar to be forced into position. A bar 8 is loosely pivoted to the plate 1, at 9, and when the device is in place on the cover for use, the pivot 9, is

directly over the center thereof. Pivotally attached to the bar 8, is a pair of links 10, and between the outer ends of these links is pivoted a rod 11, as at 12, having a handle 13, upon its upward extension, and a roller 14, revolubly mounted upon the lower extremity of the bar 11. The purpose of this roller 14, is to press upon and straighten any dents or irregularities in the flange, 15, of the jar cover or cap 3, and at. the same time securely press this flange against the rubber ring or gasket on the neck of the jar. This prevents the ingress or egress of air or gas, as it presses the cover of the jar firmly against the ring, forcing it down securely against the neck of the jar. In addition to this the device is of cat value in sealing jars, the covers of which have been used before where the flange is mutilated or damaged. The roller takes out the roughness, and smoothes the edges of the flange of the cover that fits down over the rubber ring, and at the sametime forces the cover flange firmly against the ring,

after the cover has been screwed down as far as possible with the hands. This process renders the jar absolutely air tight, not-withstanding the fact that the cover or cap may have been formerly used and the edges roughened by forcing it up with a knife, or other instrument.

Having described my invention what I claim is 1. In a fruit jar sealing device a clamp, an arm pivoted to the center of said clamp, links attached to said arm, said links carrying a bar supporting a roller, all substantially as set forth.

2. In a jar sealing device the combination of a clamp, an arm pivoted to said clamp, links attached to said arm, a bar pivoted between said links, said bar having a handle 011 its upper extremity, a roller on its lower extremity, for straightening and pressing the flange of a fruit jar cover over the neck of the jar, substantially as set forth.
