The Schedule referred to in these: Letters 'atent and making part of the same To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, IRVIXG E. WESTON and AL- vnr STREETER, ot Winchendon, in the county of \Vo1cester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Chnrns; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exacs.tlesc1iption of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specitication, and t0 the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

Our invention relates tochurns, and consists iu the novel construction and arrangement of the dasher,

and of the journal-box, by which the shaft thereof is fastened to the case of the churn, whereby it is designed to lessen the time required for making butter, and to facilitate the removal of the dasher from the churn-case, when necessary for cleaning or other purposes.

The letter A of thev drawing designates the arms `ot` the dasher, arranged to cross cach other at right angles,

B is the shaft, attencd at b to keep it steady iu the'dasher, and provided with a groove or neck, a, near the end.

C G'represcnt the beaters, which are rectangular bars, attached at each end to the arms A, and ar ranged in such a'manner that each bar will move edgewise through the cream, dividing the same, and causing, y its slanting faces, two swiftly diverging currents ot cream, which will engage with divergent currents iiom the adjacent bars, thus accelerating the rupture of the butter capsules, and the agglomera tion of the contents thereof.

The plate D, provided wit-h a rectangular slot, is secured to the exterior arm of the dasher, and serves to receive the fiattened portion I) of the shaft, which is thus prevented from turning in the dasher.

.E represents the retaining, Huid-tight journal-box, provided with a cavity, c, to receive the end of tine shaft, and slotted at d, to receive the slide The slide z is'slotted at c to receive the screw n, and is thereby prevented from heilig drawn from its place and lost.

It is also. provided with a semicircnlar notch, r, in its lewe-n end, so arranged that, when the slide. is dropped, it will engage with the groove at the end ot the shaft, and secure it in place, without impeding its mot-ion of revolution.

NVhat we claim as our invention, and desire to sccure by Letters Patent, is-

In combination with a barrel-churn, provided with the dasher A, having rectangular beaters C, the shat't B, provided with fiat places b, and neck a, the slotted plate D, and the bearing-plate E, provided with slotted slide z, and closed recess c, wheuconstrncted and arranged to,operate substantially as shown and described.
