tinguisher Holders, of which the following isa specification containing a full, clear, and
exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, fori'ning a part hereof.
- My invention relates to improvements in holders for fire extinguishers, the object of my invention being to construct a holder for fire extinguishers and the like whereby the extinguishers are held in an erect position on a stationary part of a vehicle such as the running-board of an automobile, and-to provide a readily detachable means for connecting the fire extinguisher with the holder.
For the above purposes my invention consists in certain novel features of construc' tion and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, pointed out in the claim and illustrated by-the accompanying drawing, in which:

Embracing each of the metallic straps 6 is a flexible strap 7 having buckles 8 "for varying the lengths thereof, and carried at the free end of each of the straps 7 is a link 9. I

Secured to the peripheryof the fire extinguisher adjacent its top and at diametrically opposed points are pairs of perforated ears 11, each of which is provided with an integral lateral extension for securing the ear to the fire extinguisher and each of which is provided with a notch 12 in its upper margin adjacent the lateral extension and each of which'ears has an inclined upper margin 13. Carried by the cars 11 is a pivot 14;.- Mounted on each of the pivots 14: is a means for connecting the flexible strap to'the fire extinguisher, each of which is cast complete in one pieceand' comprises two perforated ears 15, each of which ears is provided with an integral extension 16."Formed integral with said ears is an, operating handle 1? which is preferably formed on a longitudinally curved Patent-ed Sept. 10,1912.
line; The extensions 16 together with said handle form recesses designed to receive a portion of the links 9 and to carry the links in a portion of their travel over the inclined faces of the ears 11. After the link has been positioned over the handle 17 and moved a certain distance over the inclined margins 13 of the perforated ears, a continued movement of the handle will force the link to a position occupying the notches l2, and by reason of the notches 12 being located in planes inside the pivotal points of thehandle it is obvious that the links are locked against movement relative the cars 11. To, unseat the links from the notches 12,-it is necessary only to move the operating handle outwardly, thus causing the extensions 16 to liftthe links out of said notches.
While I have shown and described my improved holder as applied to an automobile" fire extinguisher-,1 do not wish to be understood as limiting myself tbjsuch a use as it is obvious that the same for carrying a VII in the praetical operation of the device, lining the holder 2 to be positioned on any suitable support and provided with the flexible straps 7, it obvious that a devi 'e sue-l as a tire ei-itingnisher, provided with perforated ears such as 11, n'iay be securely fixed in a carrying position to the holder, the l'mlder preventing lateral movements of the lire extinguisher and the flexible eonneotions between holder and the extinguisher prevent vertical movements of the holder.
By reason of the connection hetween the flOXIblG straps and the extinguisher it obvious that the extinguisl'ier may be rapidly detached from the flexible straps when it is desired to use the extingni: ier, and when the extinguisher is again placed in the holder it is obvious thatthe flexible straps may he as quickly secured in :1 cal wing p ';sition.
