To all whom 2'25 may concern:

Be it known that I, ADRIAN MiLns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Quartz, in the county of Missoula and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ironing-Boards, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to ironing boards, and primarily to a novel supporting means for holding the ironing board proper in operative position.

The device is so formed that it may be collapsed and folded against the ironing board, thereby forming a neat and compact structure which will require but little space in storing away or packing for shipment.

The device is shown as applied to an ironing board, but the construction may be applied to tables or other supports without departing from the spirit of the invention.

lVith the above and other objects in view, this invention consists of the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, all as hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of the present invention retaining or supporting the ironing board in an operative position; Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view thereof; Fig. 8 is a similar view thereof disclosing the supporting means collapsed or folded against the ironing board; Fig. l is an end elevation of Fig. 1; Fig. 5 is a similar view of Fig. 8; Fig. 6 is a side elevation of the device as disclosed in Fig. 3.

Throughout the following detail description and on the several figures of the drawings, similar parts are referred to by like reference characters.

The present invention, as illustrated, is attached to the ironing board or table 1 and comprises the spaced vertical supporting legs 2 which are hingedly secured to the board body 1, and a diagonally disposed supporting leg 3, said supporting legs 2 being braced or limited in their movement by the block 4 carried by the body 1. A pair of cleats 5 are mounted on the under side of the body 1 and are provided with notches to receive the cross member 6 carried Specification of Letters Patent.

by the braces 7, the latter being pivotally connected to the vertical legs or supporting members 2 by the pivot member 8. A second set of braces 9 are similarly mounted on the supporting members 2 by the bar 8 and have their free terminals slidably connected to the inclined supporting memher 3 through the instrumentality of a slot 10 and the cross pin 11 connectin said brace members 9.

From the foregoing, it will be noted that upon disengaging the cross member 6 from the cleats '5, the supporting means may be closed against the body 1, the cross pin 11 sliding to the opposite extremity of the slot 10 during such collapsing movement. As willbe clearly observed from Fig. 3, the supporting member 3 is clamped between the pin member 6 and the pivot member 8, the latter being offset to permit the members 2 to lie flat on the body 1. By having the pivot member 8 offset, the sets of braces 7 and 9 are prevented from moving laterally on said member 8 and thereby preventing said parts from becoming inoperative.

To retain the several parts in their collapsed posit-ion against the body 1, a set of yieldable clips or catches 12 are carried by the body 1 and adapted to engage the members 13 carried by the braces 7. lVhen the supporting means are collapsed, the members 13 are forced into engagement with the catches 12 which retain the members 7 against the body 1 and through their pivotal connection with the supporting legs 2 also retain the latter thereagainst. It is evident that were it not for the member 8 engaging over the supporting member 3, the latter would be free to move from the board 1 and would likely be broken or otherwise disabled.

Having thus described my invention what is claimed as new is:
