CIGAR OR CIGARETTE CASE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, SAMUEL Cnosny HIG- NETT, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Liverpool, in the county of Lancaster, in the Kingdom of England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar or Cigarette Cases, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has for its object a simple form of case for cigarettes, or even for cigars, which can be carried in the waistcoat pocket, and in which the cigarettes and cigars can be withdrawn without taking the case out of the pocket, and in which the contents can be sold without any fear of them falling out in transit.

It is best described by aid of the accompanying drawing, in which F igurel shows a metallic case, and Fig. 2, a cheaper cardboard case, in which ten cigarettes are to be sold to the public.

In these A is the bottom of the box, B a spring hinge of any ordinary character in the case of a metallic or celluloid case, G the sides, 0' an ordinary partial slit or groove so as to form a hinge for the case, and D two paper flaps which pass over the outer cigarette, and can be pasted to the bottom by means of an adhesive material.

One advantage of using these boxes is that the name and trademark of the cigarette Specification of Letters Patent.

can be seen through the slit on either side of the box. The case can be ornamented or printed upon in the usual manner.

To fill the case, the lid is sim )ly raised as shown in the drawings, and tie cigarettes placed therein, or if it be preferred that the case should be sold with the lid soldered or pasted down on to the box, the cigarettes, especially those made by machinery, can be very easily filled into the box through the open edge at the top, and then the flaps pasted down. There is then no chance of the cigarettes falling out in transit.

I declare that what I claim is As a new article of manufacture, a box for holding cigarettes or cigars, provided with a spring hinge for normally keeping it closed and having an opening across both the lid and the bottom nearly down to the back, and an adhesive strip upon each side of the opening on the front side of the box for sealing the box during transit, the front side of the box being entirely open, except for said strips.
