Be it known that I, TIMOTHY J. DONOVAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bathing- Machines, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in bathing machines, and has for its leading object the provision of an improved machine particularly adapt-ed for use in bathing or cleansing the feet when it is desired to soak the same in a plurality of changes of water.

The further object of my invention is the provision of an improved foot bathing machine which will serve to agitate the water to cause the same to strike against the feet of the user of my machine in currents to more thoroughly clean the feet and to some extent massage or loosen the flesh and muscles by causing vibrations of the flesh through the impingement of the water cur rents thereagainst.

Another object of the present invention is the provision of a simple but efiicient machine of this character so constructed that the feet may be readily placed within the machine and the top so closed as to prevent steam from rising or water from splashing out of the machine to come in contact with or annoy the person using the same.

Other objects and advantages of my improved bathing machine will be readily apparent by reference to the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, and it will be understood that I may make any modifications in the specific structure shown and described within the scope of the claims without departing from or exceeding the spirit of the invention.

Figurel represents a side elevation of my complete machine in use. Fig. 2 represents an endview thereof. Fig. 3 represents a top plan view of the same. Fig. 4 represents a top plan view with the cover removed. Fig. 5 represents a longitudinal sectional view on the line 5-5 of Fig. 3. Fig. 6 represents a transverse sectional view of my invention, and Fig. 7 represents a sectional view of the adjustable bracket for supporting the drive pulley, said section being taken on the line 7-7 of Fig. 1.

In the drawings, the numeral 1 designates a rectangular bathing tub or sink on which my improved bathing machine is placed, said tub being preferably formed with the inwardly extending rib 2 on which my machine rests and being provided with the draining pipe 3 and usual spigots 4: projecting upward thereabove.

My machine comprises a tank portion 5 of shape to correspond to the shape of the tub or sink into which it is to fit, said tank being provided at its upper edge with the groove 6 containing the gasket 7 onto which fits the depending rib or flange 8 of the top 9, hook members 10 being pivoted to the ends of the tank and adapted to fit over the ends of the top to secure the top in closed position. Said top has formed therein near one end the aperture 11 disposed beneath the spigot 4 of the tub to receive water therefrom, while pivoted to the top adjacent said aperture is the lever 12 having on one end the upwardly projecting handle 13 and having on the other end the cap 14 adapted to fit over and form a closure for the inlet opening in the top. Formed in the top near the other end thereof are a pair of oval shaped openings 15 through which the user of my invention may insert his feet, while secured to the top and surrounding the said openings are the members 16 formed from suitable water proof fabric, said members having the draw strings 17 engaged in their upper portions, whereby after the feet have been passed downward through said members and the apertures in the top, the draw strings may be tightened to securely fasten the members around the legs of the person using the machine to prevent water from splashing upward through the apertures.

Disposed within the machine and extending transversely thereof beneath oval apertures 15 are the foot rest bars 18 which have their ends fitting into the recesses or sockets 19 formed in the bracket plates 20 which are secured interiorly to the sides of the tank of my machine. A second set of brackets 21 is secured within the machine at the opposite end thereof, and journaled in said brackets is the shaft 22 having one end extending outward through the bracket 23 secured on the exterior of the tank. Secured upon the said shaft 22 is the sleeve 24 having mounted thereon and radiating therefrom at a plurality of points the fan or propeller blades 25 for agitating the contents of the tank.

The bracket 23 is provided with a portion 26 inclining upwardly and reawardly along the side of the tank, said portion 26 having the outwardly extending flanges 27 and having near its lower end the brace member 28 terminating in a yoke 29 resting on the outer portion of the shaft 22. Slidably engaged bet-ween the flanges 27 is the bar 30 having in its lower end a slot 31 in which is engaged the bolt 32 carried by the extension 26, said bolt having engaged on its outer end the wing nut 33 which when tightened engages the bar to lock the same in slidably adjusted position. Said bar has secured to its upper end the spindle 34 on which is rotatably mounted the drive wheel or pulley 35 having a grooved periphery and having projecting from one side thereof the crank handle 36 for rotating the same. Passing around said drive pulley and around the pulley 37 secured on the outer end of the shaft 22 is the belt 38, whereby rotation of the drive pulley serves to ro tate the shaft 22 and the sleeve and blades secured thereon to cause the blades to agitate the contents of the tank.

In the use of my machine, the same is placed in position and water supplied thereto through the inlet aperture of the top which is then closed. The feet of the user resting on the foot rest bars, the crank handle 36 is turned to drive the blades 25 to agitate the liquid in the tank, said blades throwing the liquid in currents against the feet and thoroughly cleaning the feet and giving an agreeable sensation. To enable the water in the tank to be readily changed when desired, I pivot to the bottom the lever 39 having the handle 40 and the cap portion 41 normally closing the drainage aperture 42, the handle being so positioned that it may be readily engaged and shifted by the foot to open or close the drainage aperture.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of my improved bathing machine will be readily understood and it will be seen that I have provided a simple and efiicient machine of this character which will satisfactorily cleanse the feet and which can be easily driven by hand and the tension of the driving belt adjusted by the shifting of the bar 30 with respect to the bracket extension 26.

I claim:

1. A bathing machine comprising a supporting tub or sink, a tank removably mounted thereon, a cover for said tank having a plurality of apertures formed therein, a cap closure for one of the apertures, water proof fabric members surrounding the other apertures and provided with draw strings, foot rests supported in the tank heneath the latter apertures, means for agitating the contents of the tank to cause currents to impinge against the foot rests, and manually operated means within the tank for conducting the contents thereof to the supporting tub or sink.

2. A bathing machine comprising a supporting tub or sink, a tank having foot rests supported at one end thereof and having agitating members mounted in the other end .of the tank, and in line with the foot rests,

a foot controlled outlet mounted in the tank for conducting the contents thereof to the tub or sink, a cover for the tank having a manually controlled inlet formed therein, and having a pair of apertures formed therein disposed above the foot rests, means surrounding the apertures for preventing splashing of the contents of the tank therethrough, and manually operated means for controlling the movement of the agitators.
