Specification of Letters Patent.
Patentedllllar. 12, 1912.
Application filed March 1, 1910. Serial No. 546,691.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Josnr r E. STEPHEN- sox, acitizen of the United States of America, residing at Youngstown, in the county of Mahoning and State of ()hio, have invented new and useful Improvements in \Vashbowls, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to wash-bowls, and has for an object-to provide a device of this char cter including; a main bowl=torming portion, a surrolhiding annular wall and a top or ledge portion which connects the said annular wall with the said bowl-forming portion, the controlling means for the valve being extended through the said annular wall in positions where they may be conveniently grasped and manipulated by the operator to permit the entrance of the hot or cold water to the bowl.
A still further object of the invention resides in the construction of the device where in I am able to provide a basin or bowl having a perfectly smooth or flush top portion enabling the bowl to be always kept in a perfect sanitary condition.
In the drawing, forming a portion of this specification and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views -Figurc 1 is a top plan view of my improved bowl. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section therethrongh.
My improy'cd bowl may be either made of porcelain, metal or any other desired mate rial and it consists of a main bowl-forming portion 1, and an angular side portion or wall 2 which entirely surrounds the bowl portion and which is connected thereto by a top or ledge forming portion The bowlt'orming portion is provided with hot and cold Water inlet nipples 4 and 5 with which are connected the hot and cold water supply pipes (3 and i. The said pipes 6 and T are provided with any well known and approved controlling valves 8 which carry controlling rods 9. 'lhcse rods are journaled in the portions 10 ot pockets 11 in the wall-torming portion 2 as shown particularly in Fig. 2 of the drawing. The said controlling rods .1 are provided with suitable actuating knobs or the like '12 which are disposed in the pockets 11 but positioned therein so that they can be conveniently grasped, when it is desired to open or close the valves 8.
The bowl-forming portion 1 is provided nipple 18 which is threaded exteriorly or otherwise suitably formed so that it can be connected with the usual waste pipe (not shown). The said nipple 18 is formed to provide a spider lett'orming a strainer to tcr from being emptied into the waste pipe. It may be mentioned that, the strainer-forming spider is positioned adjacent to the extreme lower end of the nipple 13 so as to form in said nipple a cavity 15 for the reception of the usual stopper. The bowl-forming portion 1 is formed to provide an overflow 1.6 which discharges into the duct 17 as illustrated.
The construction of the bowl as herein described and shown is not only simple but incident to the peculiar manner in which I have'associated the main bowl-forming portion 1, the wall portion 2 and the top or ledge 3 it will be appreciated that the said top'or ledge presents a perfectly smooth or flush surface which etlectively obviates the accumulation of filth which usually collects about the faucets, of wash-bowls when they are positioned vertically at the top adjacent to the main bowl-forming portion.
It will of course be understood that the valves 8 and their controlling rods 9 can be of any approved well known construction particular showing of such valves and their controlling rods as are shown herein.
It will of course be understood that- I do not desire to limit myself to the use of the invention as a wash-howl for toilet purposes as it is obvious that it may be used as a re ceptacle for any obvious purpose such as laundry tubs, hath tubs, toot tubs or the like.
in conihination a body of water proof material formed with a bowl, a horizontal table portion connected with the edge of the bowl and :1 depending flange surrounding the bowl, the wall of the bowl having downwardly inclined openings, water pipes con and I do not desire to limit-myself to the at its bottom with a depending discharge prevent undesirable particles of foreign inatnected with said openings, the depending In testimony whereof I aflix my signature flange of the body being formed with rein presence of two Witnesses.
