To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNEST B. PRIEBE, of Cambridge, in the count-y of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Heat ing-Plates, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in heating plates for gas stoves.
The object of the invention is to provide a heating plate for gas stoves and burners which shall concentrate the heat of the burner and prevent the same from being dissipated in the air, thus increasing the heating eflectof the burner and furnishing a rapid means of heating an article placed thereon.
A further feature of the invention consists in deflecting the heated gases back into the flame thereby utilizing them more fully and economizing in the amount of gas required to heat a utensil or other article placed upon the upper surface of the plate.
With the foregoing object in view, the invention consists in the heating plate hereinafter described and claimed, the advantages of which will be obvious to those skilled in the art from the following description.
The invention will be readily understood from an, inspection of the accompanying drawing in which,
Figure 1 is an inverted plan view of the device, and Fig. 2 is a central, transverse, vertical section of the same, showing its location above a burner.
As illustrated in the drawing the device comprises a comparatively thin top plate 1, having a depending marginal flange 2, which is adapted to rest upon the top of a gas stove and support the top plate at a slight distance above the burner 3. Although the plate 1 is shown as rectangular in shape, it is to be understood that any suitable shape may be employed.
Depending from the under side of the plate 1, is an outer annular battle 4, which may be held in place thereon by screws 5. This battle or ring has an inwardly extending curved flange 6 for deflecting the heated gases inwardly toward the burner 3. An inner annular baflle 8 is also provided, which is concentric with outer battle 4, and separated therefrom by an annular spacelO.
The ring 8 is suspended from the under side of the plate 1 by screws 12 entering lugs 14:. By this construction a series of spaces 15 are provided between the upper face of the ring 8 and the under side of the plate 1 to enable the deflected heated gases to pass outwardly from the inner chamber 16 above the burner 3 to the space 10 between the battles. The entire structure may be made of cast 1ron.
In operation, the flame, heated air and products of combustion from the burner 8 pass up into the chamber 16 within the ring 8 and strike the under side of the top plate 1. The heated gases are thus concentrated under the plate 1 and the heating efl'ect of the burner is greatly increased to more quickly heat any article placed upon the plate. The heated gases are then deflected between the plate 1 and the upper side of the ring 8, pass around the outside of the ring through the annular space 10, and are deflected by the flange 6 back to the burner to be heated again. Thus the heated gases are used over and over and are prevented from heating the surrounding atmosphere by dissipation therein. With this device a large proportion of the heat energy is concentrated and preserved to render the burner more eflicient.
While I have illustrated and described a preferred embodiment of the invention, I am aware that many modifications can be made therein by any person skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the invention as expressed in the claims. Therefore I do not wish to be limited to all the details of construction shown and described, but
What I claim is 1. An article of the class described, comprising a top plate having a depending marginal flange, an inner annular baflle depending from the under surface of the top plate and spaced therefrom at intervals, an outer annular baflle depending from the under surface of the top plate and separated from the inner bafiie by an annular space, substantially as described.
