` IMPRO'VED FOLDING DESK.

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, ERNST W. GILLES and JULES WENDELL, of the city and county of Oswego, in the State of .New York have invented certain Improvements in .School Desks and Tablesfof which the following is a specification, reference heilig had to the accompanying drawings. l

\Onn invention consists in constructing the standards of the tables and desks with vertical slots provided with notches, and in pivotingr to the arms supporting its top, levers, so constructed and arranged that their loose ends may slide in the slots in the standards and engage in notches therein, so that the top may be snpported at any angledesired.

The drawing represents a side elevation of adesk showing our improvement.

In constructing our tables and desks we make the standard B as shown in the drawing, and provide it on each side lwith a vert-ical slot, D, having notches a, as shown. l

At the top ofthe standards, or in the wood connected therewith, we hinge the arms A, and pivot to them braces C.

The loose ends of these braces we provide with a pin or projection, 11 which enters the slot D and slides therein as the arms A move up or down with the braces, and which enter and engage in the notches a as desired.

The tops of the tables and desks are't'astened tothe arms A as shown. l

By construct-in",r a table or desk in this w: it will be seen that its top may be Set at different angles, as desired, and when not in use may be turned down so as to he ont ofthe way.

Having thus described our invention,

What we claim isl. The slotted standard B, in combination with the arms A and braces C, when constructed and arranged substantially as herein described.

2. In combination with the arms A, and braces C, the Series of notches a in the Slot of the standards, for the purpose of adjusting,r the top of the table and desk at different angles, as herein described.
