COMBINATION-TOOL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 26, 1911.
Application led. October 17, 1910. Serial No. 587,518.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDERS MARrENsoN, a citizen of Sweden, residing at Independence, in the county of Teller and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination- Tools, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to combination tools. Its object is to produce a device of the kind that is cheap to manufacture, durable and efficient.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be herein fully described in the following specification, pointed out in the claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings which form a part of said specification and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device partly in section. Fig. 2 is a sect-ion on line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the tool.
Like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
2 is a curved handle resting upon a one piece base 3 which base is provided with a longitudinal opening 4 which extends entirely through the same at points 4a and 4b but which is merely a recess in the same between these points. One extremity 5 of the base is bent downwardly and at approximately right angles the-reto and provided with Serrat-ions 6 as shown in Fig. 1. The opposite extremity of base 3 is bent down and away from the same as at 7 to form a prong. A portion 8 of the base between openings therein 4a cessed portion 4 is provided with a curved prong 9 projecting therebelow and is adapted to coperate with a prong 10 that depends through aperture 4 from a lever 11 disposed within the longitudinal aperture 4 p and one end of which lever is secured in the base by a pin 12.
13 is a button arranged on lever 11 through which medium said lever may be raised or depressed on its pin 12 thus raisand 4b and beneath the re.
ing or depressing the prong or jaw 10. One extremity 14 of lever 11 engages one extremity of an auxiliary member 15 disposed above the base of the device and engaging the handle 2 thereof through the medium of an aperture 16 and pin 16a. A leg 18 depends from the under side of the auxiliary member 15 adjacent the bent termination 5 of the base 3, said leg 18 being provided with serrations 19 directly opposite the serrations of the base section 5.
Operation: The prong 7 is used to lift stove lids and similar articles; the jaw formed by prongs 9 and 10 beneath the base is used to li t flat irons and is opened and closed through the medium of the button 13 which raises or lowers lever 11 thus opening and closing the jaws as desired. A jaw for lifting pans, jars and similar articles is formed by members 18 and 5 and is opened and closed through the medium of button 13 on lever 11.
What is claimed is:-
A combination tool comprising a handle, a base having a longitudinal aperture therein secured to said handle, one extremity thereof being serrated and bent at "right angles to the main base portion, a depending jaw 9 made integral with the base, a lever 11 secured in the aperture of said base and having a depending jaw 10 for cooperation with jaw 9, a button arranged on said lever for actuating the same, an auxiliary member secured to the handle and having connect-ion with said lever, and a serrated leg depending from said auxiliary member and disposed opposite the bent serrated base termination.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto afiixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ANDERS MARTENSON.
Witnesses A. L. WALGUTT, FREDERICK RINDLER.
