To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS Mano, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have inventedcertain new and useful Improvements in Umbrellas, of Which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to umbrellas, and 'the objects of my invention are to provide an umbrella with a detachable cover that assists in maintaining the ribs of the umbrella in an extended position; and to accomplish the above-results by a mechanical construction that is simple, durable, and elticient for the'purposes for which it is intended. I
lith the above and other objects in View the invention resides in a novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be i. hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.
Reference will now be had to the drawing, whereinz-Figure 1 is a side elevation of a portion of an umbrella showing the cover thereof in sections. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the'ribs of the umbrella folded. Fig. 3 is an enlarged longitudinal sectional view of a sleeve used in connection with the ribs. Fig. 4 is the enlarged vertical sectional view of a notch of the umbrellm'and Fig. 5 is the enlarged vertical sectional view ot' a portion of the stick.
The stick of theI umbrella comprises a handle section 1 intermediate. sections 2 and 3 and a tip section 4. The upper ends of the sections 1, 2 and 3 are reduced and exteriorly screw threaded, as at 4 to engage in the lowerV ends of the sections 2,3 and 4. Loosely mounted upon the tipse'ctlion 4 is a notch 5 to which are connected the inner sections 6 of the ribs of the umbrella, the connection being made in the ordinary and well known manner. Mounted in the notch 5 and surrounding the section 4 `is the lower exteriorly threaded end 7 of a comb-shaped head 8, said head having an opening 9 providing clearance for the sect-ion 41 Mounted upon the head 8 is the central portion 1.0 of a cover 11 and retaining the central portion 10 upon the head isa. rubber gasket l2 specification of Letters Patent.

The cover has [he outerA edges thereof detachably connected to the outer ends of `the rib sections 17, and when said cover is stretched and the clasp members 21 connected to the members 20 the sleeves 1S and l5) will be retained in position. Slidably mounted upon the stick is a ruimer 22 and pivotally c'on nected to said runner in the ordinary and well knonn manner, as at- 23 are-spreaders 211 having the outer ends thereof pivotally connected to aperturedlugs 25, carried by the sleeves 18. The runner 22 is adapted to be held in a 'raised position upon the'stick section 3 by the ordinary form of catch 2G, and to retain the ribsot' the rrunner in a lowered position, a ferrule or 'cap 27 is movably mounted upon the stick section 1 to engage the outer ends of the rib sections 17. The notch 5 is detachably supported upon the tip section 4 of the stick by a collar 28 mounted upon the said section.
