Specification of Letters Patent. P'atented Aug. 15, 1911.
Application filed .rui is, 19m. Serial No. 572,624.
the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1, is a fragmentary view in side elevation of a car door equipped with the roller support and track. Fig. 2 is .a fragmentary vertical sectional view taken von the line 2-2, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a similar view taken on the line 3-3, Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the support for the lower end of the door.
Referring to said accompanying drawings by numerals, 1 designates a car which has a channel bar 2 arranged horizontally over the upper edge of the doorway thereof, said bar being inverted and having its inner flange or wall detachably fastened to the-car by the screws 3 or other suitable fasteners.
A channel bar 4 is similarly arranged below I the doorway, said bar provided with a central longitudinal rib 5 the upper edge of which is preferably rounded. The inner wall of the bar 4 is provided with bracket arms (3 which are fastened to the car below the doorway by the screws 7 or other detachable fasteners.
The car door 8 has a channel bar 9 detachably fastened to the lower edge thereof. Said bar is inverted and the side flanges thereof form the support-s for the transverse shafts 10 upon which the grooved rollers 11 are mounted.
Adjacent the upper edge, the door 8 has recesses 12 formed in the front surface and in which the housings 13 are seated. Each housing carries a vertical shaft 14: upon which an anti-friction roller 15 is mounted, said rollers projecting beyond the front surface of the door 8. a
As is shown in Fig. 2, the upper edge of the door is inclosed by the upper channel bar 2, and the roller 15 contacts with the I.
inner surface of the front flange of said bar. The rollers 11 at the lower edge of the doors are mounted on the central rib or tracks 5' of the bar l, as shown in Fig; 3.
With this arrangement it will be clear that there is little or no friction between the upper and lower bars 2 and 4 and the door 8, so that said door can be readily opened or.
closed. 1
The channel bar 4 is provided with a flat bottom and the upstanding fiat flanges at the longitudinal edges thereof are in spaced parallel relation to the rib or track 5 and serve as side guards for said track so that if the rollers 11 are accidentally displaced from said track the rollers will be caught by said bar. It will also be seen that the described shape of the bar 4 permits the same to be fastened to the outer surface of the sill at'the base of the doorway by means ofthe bracket arms 6. d
What I claim as my invention is In a combined roller support and track for doors, the combination witha bracket comprising a channel bar adapted to be secured to the lower edge of a door, a wheel rotatably mounted in said channel'bar, ofa track comprising a flat bar provided with fiat upstanding guard flanges at its longitudinal edges and with acentral and longitu- In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in presence-of two witnesses.
