GARMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J one 2, 19kt.
Application filed March 4. 1914. Serial No. 822,400.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that l, lihnxAnn l. l li'lGlli'i, a subject of the lhnperor of'Austria-llungaryn and a resident of the city oi? New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Garment of which the fol.- lowing is a full, clear, and exact description The invention relates to wearing apparel, and its object is to provide a new and llT1- proved garment such as a rain coat, cloak and the like, and provided with a convertible collar and hood arranged to permit its use as an ornamental collar or as a hood with or without a bonnet effect, or with or without a military effect. In order to accomplish the de ired result use 'is made of a convertible col ar and lnood having a hood-shaped body attached to the neckband of the garment, the front oii the body being provided with a collar terminating at its ends a distance from-the neckloand, and elastic connections between the collar terminals and the neck portion of the body.
I A practical embodiment of the invention ings forming a part of this specification, in Which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the front ofthe garment with, the convertible collar and hood folded in position to provide an ornamental collar; Fig. 2 is a 'nrspeetive View of the rear of the same; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the front of the garment with the convertible eolla and hood raised to form a hood; Fig. is a side elevation of the same With the collar extended in a ter- Ward direction to provide a bonnetreii'cct; and Fig. 5 is a sectional side elevation of the same.
The garment A on which the convertible form of a rain coat or cloak, open at the front and providedat the front of its neckband B with a fastening device, preferably in the forni of a tab C, having: a buttonhole neckloand B. Thefront of the garment A is also provided with suitable i'astening'deices E, such as buttons and buttonholes, for clo eiggthe garment Whenever it is desired to dose v To the neclrband B of the garment is sesidc portions l of this body 1. are gathered at the trout edge. of the body and tothis front edge is secured a collar (l adapted to .be folded baclc onto the top and sides of the body I. as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, or the said collar may be extended in a forward direction, as shown in Figs. l and 5, to provide a bonnet cli'cct. The collar G terniinates at each end a distance from the neck portion l? of the hood body 1*, and the front. edge thereof is provided with hcnis F each extending from the neck portion F to the corresponding cud of the collar (l. in each hem F is arranged an elastic band ll (see Fig. 5) secured at its end to the ends of the corresponding born I, so that the bums are normally gathered or shirred, as plainly indicated in the drawings and the heins are thu free to expand when the hood is drawn over the woarcr s head. It will be noticed that by the use oi the elastic bands ll a pull is exerted at the points where the ends of the collar (1 join the front edge of the hood body I and hence the collar G is drawn tightly over the wearers head thus insuring a perfect it of the front edge of the hood body on the wcarc1"s head, at the same time holding the collar G against wrinkling up.
One end of the collar G is provided with a loop l adapted to engage a button I arranged on the outside of the other cud oi a collar G to permit of closing: the collar G with a view to produce a, military eiicct at the time the hood body F is drawn up over the wearers head and the collar G is folded back onto the same.
In order to still'cn the front portion of the body F use is made of. a slil'l'ening G attached to the inside of the body I and form-- ing an extension of the collar G, as will, be readily understood by reference to Fig. A lining J of silk or other suitable material is arranged in the rear portion of the hood body F and this lining is visible when the hood body is folded onto the hack oi the garment A, as shown in Fig. 2, thus heightening the effect of the garn'icnt. \Vhcn the hood body and collar are folded back onto the back of the garment A, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the collar (1 fits snugly in position and is held against wrinkling up by the elastic bands ll.
From the foregoing it will be seen that by the arrangement described the hood body F and its collar G can be readily folded back meeting onto'the arment to provide a very ornamental eli ect, and the .hood; when extended over'the head of the wearer is held snug! y in position by the action of the elastic bands H, and, owing to the gathered portion F and the collar G, produces a hat effect, pop-l ularly known as the Billy Burke hat. It
will also be noticed that the collar i can be extended to provide a bonnet efl'ect, or thecollar can be closed at the front to provide a military efi'ect.
Having thus 1. A convertible collar and hood for garments, comprising a hood-shaped body having a neck portion attached to the neckband.
of the garment, the front edge of the said body being provided with a collar ter1ni-. nating at each end a distance from the said neck portion, and elastic connections conthe neck portion with the terminals of the collar, v
2. A convertible collar and hood for garments, comprising a hood-shaped body having a neck portion attached to the neckband of the arment, the front edgeof the said body being provided with a collar terminatdescribed my invention, 1 01mm as new and deslre to secure by Letters= Patent:
act-leper ing at each end a distance from the said neck portion, the remaining. lower portions of the front edge of the body being provided with hems, and elastic bands extending in the said hems and secured at their ends to the body, the elastic bands normally holding the hems in gathered position.
3. -A convertible collar and hood for garments, comprising a hood-shaped body having a neck portion attached to the neckband of the garment, the front edge of the said body being provided with a collar terminating at each end a distance from the said neck
