UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PETER KRDT, OF HAIVIBURG, GERMANY.
SHUTTLE-CARRIER MECHANISIVI FOR NET-MAKING MACI-IINES.
Application file December 14, 1912.
To all 207mm it 77m7/ concc'm:
Be it known that l, Pn'rnn Konn'r, a subject of the King of Prussia, residing1 at the city of Hamburg, in the State of l-lamburg, German Empire, have invented certain new and useful luiprovements in Shuttle-Carrier Mechanism for Net-MakingMachines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object to produce an improved shuttle-carrier niech anism for net-making machines of the Jonannin type whereby the movements of the shuttle-czirrier and the parts coperating therewith are shortencd and modified in such a inanner as to improve considerably the working' of the machine and siinplify its construction.
in existing` net-making' machines the shuttle-carrier usually moves to-and-fro only along a horizontal and coinparatively long path, and consequently those machines can be driven only at a comparatively slow speed, and yet it has been found impossible to work such machines without Vihration. Now according to tie present invention the to-and-fro movement of the Slnittle-carrier is shortened by more than half, and it also receives a partial rotation for the purposeof bring-in;` the points of the shuttlcs to the gi'ippers. By this means the further advantage is attained that con'ipared with existing i'nachines the grippcrs also need only make a. considerably shorter moveinent for the Purpose of delivering the gripped thread to the points of the shuttles. These improvemcnts have the effect of rendcringl the working of the machine steadier and more uniform, and of enahling the machine to be driven at a eonsiderahly higher speed. Further the complicated motiontransmitting devices (such as elliptic Wheels and the like) employed with the object of prcventing' Vibration and shock, may be dispenscd with because the improved mode of Operating1 the machine rcnders the lattcr practically free from ribration.
Une manner of carrying out this inventiqn is illnstrated by way of exaingle in the.. acconipanying)` drawings in which :-fl
Figura l shows the parts in the positions they occupy at the l'ioginning of the movement of the shuttle. Fi 2 shows the parts in their positio` when. the npper threads ,are being drawn in; Fi 3 shows the parts in their positions when the upper loops are specification of Letters atent.

being delivcrcd by the grippers to the shuttles.
'l`he carriage a for the rotary Shuttle-carrier receives a short to-and-fro movenient from the connecting rod c. The Shuttlecarrier Z) is connected to a toothed sector d which adapted to roll over a rack e in the longitudinal inovemcnt of the carriage a, and thereby cause the shuttle-carrier Z) with the Shuttle f to rotate. The gripper holder f/ is caused by any suitable means to move horizontally in such a manner as to bring the cripped thread to the point of the shuttle. ln the example the gripper holder is shown suspended in a pendulating nianner. The coinb h has the usual movements.
The accompanyino; drawings illustrate the several. positions of the earriage a and shuttlc f. As the carriage o moves back, the point of the shuttle is gradually rotated upward in such a manner as to he brought nearer to the grippers, so that the latter need make only a correspondingly reduced movement.
Any suitable means may bo employed instead of the rack and Sector gear.
I claim:
1. In a net making machine, the combination of a. main frame, of a carriage reciprocal in a straight line on the frame, a Shuttle carrier niounted on said carriage, shuttle carricr Operating means including a rack and segment, and means connected to the carriz'ig'e for i'eciprocating` same and elfectino' operation of the shuttle carrier operating' means.
2. ln a net making` machine, the combination with the main frame, of a carriage movably inounted thereon, means for Operating said n'iovable carriag'e, a Shuttle carrier inounted on said carriage, a 'ack bar on said frame, and means between the Shuttle carrier and the rack bar adapted to operate the Shuttle carrier, said means comprising a toothed sector engaging said rack bar and fastened to said shnttle carrier, Whereby a n'iovement of the movable carriage will operate the shuttle carrier.
l'n testiinony whercof I aliix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
