Description

W. J. BENDALL.
FLY PAPER HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED SBPT.15,1910.
1,097,838. Patented May 26, 1914.
l INVENTOR (Ii/M Jzml/ AM Mm] WITNESSES UNITED s TEs PATENT onnron WILLIAM J. nnNnALLQor amen, anrzona- FLY-rennin HOLDER.
To all whom it concern i Be itlknqwn'that r I M J. BENDALL,
- a citizen'of the United States, residing at which is simple in construction, durable and Gldbe', in the county of Gila and State of Arizona have invented certain new and'useful Improvements in Fly-Paper Holders, of
which the following is a specification.
; This invention relates to a device for holding sticky'fly-paper, so that the same will not be blown about-by wind. I 7
An important object of this invention is to provide a holder of the above character,
cheap ,to manufacture.
Av further object of this invention is to provide afstructure for holding fiy paper,
which will permit of the maximum amount of sticky surface to be exposed to the ready access of flies.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same, Figure l is a perspective view; of the holder, Fig. 2 1s a ongitudinal section taken on line 22 of Fig. "1', and Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view taken'on line'33 of Fig. 1. In the drawings wherein is illustrated a preferred embodiment of my invention, thenumeral'l designates a section of flat sheetmetal, serving as a handle portion. for the device. The section 1 is provided midway of its ends with an extension 2, having an a erture 3 formed therethrough, whereby tlib, extension 2 may be readily connected wit-h a suitable cord when it is desired to suspend the device, as will be explained hereinafter; The section or handle portion 1 has formed thereon'a preferably rectangular open frame 4, .yvhich may be termed for the sake of cle'arness, a stationary fr'ame. The outer longitudinal edges and th? lower outer transverse edge of this sta ionary frame are provided with flanges 5, wh ch are connected to form in effect acontinuous Adapted to cooperate with the stationary edge provided with flanges 7, which form in movable frame 6 and fit snugly between the, 65
effect a continuous flange. The flanges 5 of the stationary frame extend toward the flanges 7, as shown. The inner longitudinal edges and the upper and lower inner transend of the frame 6 is connected with the section 1 by ahinge 9 one leaf of which is suitably secured to the plate 1, and the other leaf to the frame 6. The lower endof the stationary frame4 has 'a spring catch 10 suitably secured' thereto, which extends down 'wardly and then upwardly for engagement with the lower end of the movable frame 6 for releasablyholding the frame 6 in its closed position.
In the use of the holder, a sheet of sticky ary frame 4, and the movable frame 6 brought into engagement with said stationary frame. The. inner flanges8 engage the sheet of fly paper'and securely clamp the same against the stationary frame, it being understood that the flan cs8 engage the margin of the fly-paper wliich is always left frec'from sticky material. The flanges 5 of Lhe stationary frame also serve 'to prevent the displacement of the fly-p'aper. The outer flanges 7 of the frame 6 engage the flanges 5 for preventing the displacement of the movable framed. The fly-paper is thus securely held in the device, which may be laid upon a table or the like. In the use of the device, two sheets'of fly-paper be placed to= get-her so that their sticky-surfaces will be exposed or outermost. These two'sheets are then placed within the holder, and owing able frames are formed open, the flies may have ready access to the two sticky surfaces.
with two sheets of fly-paper arranged as above stated, said holder is suspended by a suitable cord or the likehaving connection with the extension 2.
to be taken as a preferred example of the size and arrangement of parts may be reof the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
' Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is 4 verse edges of the frame 6 are provided with I wish it understood that the form of my invention'herewith shown and dese'ribed, is
fly-paper 11 is arranged within the station- When the holder is employed in. connection sorted to without departing from the spirit speeimnon f Letters Patent. Patented May 26, 1914. Application filed September 15, 1910. Serial No.
toward the stationary frame 4. The upper to the fact that both the stationary and movsame, and that certain changes in the shape, a
A device of the character described, in-
eluding a relatively stationary section of sheet metal stamped to provide an upper handle portion having an open rectangular frame formed thereon and depending there- 5 from and provided with an upstanding U- ing U-shaped flange extending along the outer lower horizontal and vertical edges of said outer rectangular frame to receive therein the first named U-shaped flange, said outer movable rectangular frame being provided With an inner inwardly extending rectangular flange'arranged in spaced relation to the outer U-sl1aped flange carried by the outer movable frame, a hinge attached to the handle and having its outer leaf off-set and attached to the upper end of the outer movable frame, and a spring catch attached to the lower, end of the stationary frame, and engaging the lower end of the outer-movable frame.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
' WILLIAM J. BENDALL.
