THERAPEUTIC DEVICE.
Specification of Letterslatent.
Patented May 5, 1914.
Application filed August 12, 1913. Serial No. 784,853.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, C ARLES E. MAOAR- THY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Griflin, in the county of Spald-.
ing and State of Georgia, have made a new and useful Improvement in Therapeutic Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improved form of clamp adapted to be applied to the external male organ of generation, in the case of impotency, for producing erection of the same and promoting'its restoration to the'normal condition.
The details of construction and operation of the device are as hereinafter described,
and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which 7 Figure 1 is a face or plan view, and Figs. 2 and 3 are cross sections on the lines 22 and 33, respectively, of Fig. 1.
The device is a spring clamp formed of two jaws 1 and 1* which are pivoted together by means of a screw or rivet 2 that passes through overlapping integral portions of the j aws. A spiral spring 3 is interposed between the shorter arms of the levers forming extensions of the jaws, as shown in Fig. 1, and by the expansion of the same tending to approximate the jaws composing the clamp proper.
As shown in Fig. 1, the jaws are slightly curved, especially on the inner side, so that an elongated elliptical opening normally exists between them. L V
In practical use of the implement, the jaws 1 and 1 are separated or pulled apart, against the tension of the springs, sulficiently to admit the male organ between them, and then, upon releasing the jaws they close upon the organ and clamp it to a degree corresponding to the tension of the spring.
The device is applied'to the base of the organ, or immediately adjacent to the body,
' one jaw or lever thus extending transversely across the upper side of the organ. The pressure, thus applied in opposite directions partly arrests the return flow of blood in the large dorsal vein and other smaller veins, thereby causing distention of both the head and body of the organ and consequent erection of the latter.
The device as a whole being so constructed as to be flat and comparatively thin offers no material obstruction in the act of coition.
For convenience in opening the jaws to apply and remove the implement, I provide the ends of the jaws with eyes or loops 1 to which pull tapes or strings 5 may be attached as shown in Fig. 1.
The device is simple and inexpensive and may be easily and quickly manipulated for application and removal, and is very effective for its purpose.
What I claim is,
The improved therapeutic device for the purpose specified, comprising two levers or jaws pivoted together and arranged opposite each other, the inner sides of their longer arms being curved outwardly or from each other, and a spiral springinterposed between the shorter arms of the jaws which are extended in the same planes with their longer arms, as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
hi I MACARTHY.
