LGOHN. DOUBLE CARD CASE. APPLIGATION FILED JAN. 17, 1914.

LOUIS COHN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DOUBLE CARD-CASE.
To (ZZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, Louis Conn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county of New York and State of New York, have made and invented certain new and useful Improvements in Double Card Cases, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in card cases, such, for instance, as are employed for receiving and retaining an identification or pass card of a lodge or organization, the object being to provide an article of this kind which, when opened to its full extent, will present the card in its entirety, that is, when the case is fully opened, the card willbe fully opened or unfolded, the case itself being approximately, or slightly larger, in size than that of the card intended to be contained therein. Gard cases of this kind have usually been made or constructed in such a way that in order to contain the 1 card or certificate the latter must be folded once, or more times, upon itself before the case can be closed, necessitating the unfolding of the card after the case itself has been opened. As will be hereafter seen, I have constructed my improved case in such way that the card lies fiat within the same when said case is open, the card, however, with a portion of the case, being folded and completely and wholly contained within the two outer sections. This case, so constructed, is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of the case in its folded or closed adjustment. Fig. 2 is a view of the same in its opened adjustment. Fig. 3 is a similar View showing the opened case containing a card or certificate. Fig. l is a sectional view taken on the line 44 of Fig. 1, and containing a card. Fig. 5 is a sectional View taken on the line 55 of Fig. 3.
Referring to the drawing, it will be seen that my improved card case comprises four hinged sections 6, 7, 8, 9, the two inner sections 7 and 8 being preferably made of open work, or of other fanciful design, and slightly less in length and width than the two outer sections 6 and 9, in order that the same may be completely inclosed within the outer sections when the case is in its folded or closed adjustment as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 4:- On the outer free edges of the outer sections 6 and 9 are provided the narrow Specification of Letters Patent.

bezels 10 and 11, under which the ends of the card 12 are adapted to fit as illustrated in Figs. l and 5, these bezels 10, 11 being of such width as to permit the inner sections 7 and 8 to be folded within the outer sections 6 and 9, without interfering therewith. The inner sections 7 and 8 are hinged together at their adjacent edges as illustrated at 13, the outer edges of these sections being hinged to the inner edges of the outer sections 6 and 9, as illustrated at 14 and 15, this construction and arrangement of the parts permitting the lnner sections 7 and 8 to be folded inwardly, and when the case is closed to be contained within and between the sections 6 and 9. From the edges of the outer sections extend I the holding clips or fingers 16, these holding clips being employed for the purpose of assisting the bezels 10, 11 in retaining the card within the case as clearly illustrated in Fig. 5, said clips being preferably bent down wardly toward the inner surface or sides of the sections 6 and 9. To accommodate these clips, and in order to prevent the interference of the same with the inner sections 7 and 8 when the case is in its folded adjustment, I form in the ends of the latter the recesses 17 as illustrated in Fig. 2, said recesses allowing the clips and portions of the card to enter therein and thus permit the proper folding of the case.
It will of course be understood that while I have illustrated the inner sections 7 and 8 as being made of open or scroll work, they may be made solid or continuous as are the outer sections 6 and 9, and, furthermore, that while this case has been particularly designed to receive and contain a card of such size as to be open or flat when the case is open, yet there may be used or employed therewith a card of such size as to be folded once or more times upon itself before the case is folded and closed.
For the purpose of retaining the case in its closed or folded adjustment, 1 form on, or secure, to theedges of one of the outer sections, for instance, section 6, the lugs or projections 18, which, when the case is fold ed, project over and upon the corresponding edges of the other outer section 9, and impinging thereon, operate to prevent the case from accident-ally opening. In order, however, to facilitate the opening of the case when desired, 1 form on, or secure to, the ends of the outer section, the knobs 19 which, when separated or forced, in a direction away from each other, will operate to open or separate the outer sections.
What I claim is 1. A card case of the character described comprising four sections joined at their adjacent edges, the two inner sections being adapted to be folded and bent within the outer sections when the case is in its closed adjustment.
2. A card case of the character described, comprising four sections hinged at their adjacent edges, the two inner sections being of slightly less length and width than the two outer sections, the said two inner sections being adapted to be folded and contained within the outer sections when the case is in its closed adjustment.
3. A card case of the character described comprising four sections hinged at their adjacent edges, each of the outer sections being provided on their ends with a bezel of such width as not to interfere with the folded inner sections when the case is closed, said two inner sections being adapted to be folded and wholly contained within the outer sections when said case is in its folded adjustment.
4. A card case of the character described comprising four sections, hinged together at their adjacent edges, the outer sections being provided on their ends with retaining clips, the two inner sections being provided on their edges with recesses to accommodate said clips when the case is in its closed or folded adjustment.
5. A card case of the character described comprising four sections, hinged together at their adjacent edges, each of'the outer sections being provided with a bezel and with retaining clips, the two inner sections being provided with recesses to accommodate said clips and being'slightly less in length and width than the two outer sections, whereby to be wholly contained within said outer sections when the case is closed.
Signed at New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 14th day of January, A. D.
