Description

P. MAUSER.
DE VIOE FOR AUTOMATIG FIREARMS FOR SHOOTING WITH BLANK CARTRIDGES.
APPLICATION FILED 2213.21, 1913.
' with Blank Cartridges,
. zle when firing ordinary type are illustrated in PAUL MAUSER, OF O BERNDORI-ON-THE-NECKAR, GERMANY.
DEVICE FOR AUTOMATIC FIREARMS Specification of Letters Patent.
FOR SHOOTING WITH BLANK CARTRIDGES.
' Patented Apr. 7, 1914.
Application filed Iiebruary 21, 1913. Serial No. 749,795.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that LPAUL MAUSER, royal privy commercial councilor, subject of the King of Wurttemberg, residing at Oberndorf-on-the-Neckar, in the Kingdom of Wurttemberg, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Automatic Firearms for Shooting of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a device for automatic firearms for firing blank cartridges and resides in fittin a bush of reduced caliber to the barrel. wing to the reduction of the caliber thus effected in front of the projectile, a gas pressure can be produced in front of the cartridge case which is equal to the pressure obtaining at the muzcartridges. As a result of this, when firing blank cartridges the automatic action of the wea on is insured in the same way as when firmg service ammunition.
Two embodiments of the invention as applied to a self loading gun of the Mauser longitudinal section. In the construction illustrated in Figure 1, the barrel is bored cylindrically where it connectswith the cartridge chamber, the front portion of the bore being threaded. A bush a is inserted in this bore and fixed by screwing it home; at its front portion a which is located in front of .the projectile of a blank cartridge, it is reduced in caliber. In the construction illustrated in Fig. 2 the bore in the barrel tapers and the outer wall of the bush tapers correspondingly, so that it is not necessary to provide screw threading for fixing the bush in the barrel.
In both embodiments herein described the forward end of the bush abuts against an annular shoulder b formed in the barrel during the boring.
and abutting against said shoulder,
adapted to man-- cartridge, sub- In' accordance with the nature of the weapon and of the ammunition, the reduction of the caliber is located where the most favorable effect can be obtained with the minimum charge.
-The invention is applicable to machine guns, automatic firearms and pistols.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A device for automatic firearms for using blank cartridges comprising a bush adapted to be securely arranged in a boring of the barrel of the at its rear end the front portion of the cartridge chamber and having its front end of reduced caliber.
2. In an automatic firearm adaptable for blank cartridges, the combination of a barrel formed rearwardly with a boring terminating at its front end in an annular shoulder, and a bushing arranged in said boring and constituting at its rear end the front portion of the cartridge chamber and having its forward end abutting against said shoulder and of reduced caliber.
3. In an automatic firearm of the kind described a barrel formed at its'rearward end with a cylindrical boring terminating at its forward end in an annular shoulder and a bushin having its front portion of reduced ca iber and in threaded en a ement with the forward end portion of said oring the rear portion of said bushing bein gage with the head of a blan stantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have aifixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
