Description
H. G. BREWSTER.
WELL PAGKER.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 9, 1913. 1,090,019. Patented Mar. 10, 1914.
lhil/l/ H 111 WW1 ill a iii? 4 1 L HARRY C. BREWSTER, OF SHREVEPORT, LOUISIANA.
WELL-PACKER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Mar, 10, 1914,-
Application filed'May 9, 1913. Serial No. 766,652.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HARRY C. BREWSTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Shreveport, in the parish of Caddo and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Well-Packers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in well packers, and it consists in the constructions, combinations and arrangements here in described and claimed.
An object of my invention is to provide an improved ex ansible packer of canvas, or similar materia adapted to be set for efficiently packing in soft formations.
A further object of my invention is to provide an improved well packer constructed to permit of the ready setting of a series of packers within a well.
In the accompanying drawings formin a part of this application and in which simi ar.
reference symbols indicate corresponding parts .in the several views: Figure 1 is a vertical axial section, illustrating one embodiment of my invention with the relatively'movable parts detachably secured to gether for insertion in a well; Fig. 2 is a similar view, showing the relatively movable parts released and in telescoped relation for setting the packer; and Fig. 3 is a section on the line 33-of Fig. 2. Referring to the drawings, 1 indicates a tubular member, which can be screwed, or
otherwise rigidly attached, at its lower end to the well tubing in a usual manner. A collar 2 is rlgidly secured to the upper end of said member 1 and provided with internal threads 3 adapted to screw on a short threaded portion 4 of a tubular plunger 5;
' said plunger 5 being adapted to telescope through the collar 2 and tubular memberl u on being screwed through said collar.
he plunger 5 has a collar 6 rigidly secured to its upper end, which is provided with a threaded portion. 7 adapted to be screwed to the upper line of well tubing 8, or to the tubular member 1 of a duplicate packer.
A packing 9 is mounted on the plunger 5 in position to be engaged by the collars 2 and 6 for expanding the packing 9 when said plunger is telescoped within the tubular member 1. The plunger 5 is provided with pins 10 adapted to engage lugs 11 on the inner periphery of the tubular member 1 in the telescoped position of said plunger, for locking said plunger against further righthand rotation when the latter has been screwed through the threaded collar 2 and telescoped within said member 1. This provides a simple and efficient means for positively locking the telescoped plunger against right-hand rotation in order to permit a se ries of connected packers to be set in a well.
I have illustrated and described preferred and satisfactory constructions, but changes could be made within the spirit and scope of my invention.
I claim:
1. In a well packer, the combination of a tubular member, an internal threaded collar on said member, a tubular plunger threaded in said collar and adapted to telescope through said collar and tubular member, an
exterior collar on said tubular plunger, an expansible packing mounted between said collars of said member and plunger, and c0- operating means on said member and plunger for locking the latter against rotation in one direction when telescoped within said tubular member. I
2. In a well packer, the combination of a tubular member, an internal threaded collar on said member, a tubular plunger threaded in said collar and adapted to telescope through said collar and tubular member, an exterior collar on saidtubular plunger, an expansible packing mounted between said collars of 'said member and plunger, and
lugs and pins on said member and plunger--
