To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANCIS J. WESTON, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Binghamton, in the county of Broome and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Packages, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to packages and to an arrangement thereof whereby the contents can be readily removed from the same, being particularly adaptable for tobacco, snufi', cheese or like articles.

The object of the invention is to provide means whereby the contents of the recepfrom the bottom thereof so as to project eyond the mouth and thereby be readily detached or taken out.

The invention consists in the matters hereinafter set forth and particularly pointed out in the appended claims. i

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a View in perspective, partially broken away and in section, of one form of package that embodies features of the invention; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the preferred form of ejector; Fig. 3 is a similar view illustrating a modified form of ejector; Fig. 4: is a similar view illustrating a still further modified form of ejector; Fig. 5 is a cross sectional view of a portion of the same illustrating a method of attaching the lining of a package to the ejector, and Fig. 6 is a vertical sectional view of a portion of a casing, illustrating an ejector handle held by the lid or cover of the casing.

Referring to the drawings an ejector plate 1 is arranged to conform to the interior of a package so that when in lowest position it is substantially the false bottom therefor. A handle strip 2 is secured at proper position upon the margin of the ejector and extends up the interior wall of whatever receptacle, such as illustrated at 3, the device may be applied to. The handle is preferably of pliable material whereby it may be folded over the upper margin of the recep tacle between the cover flange 4 if there be one and the side of the casing. Where the receptacle has a flexible lining 5 such as is common in packing tobacco and other commodities and may be of waxed paper or similar material, the ejector has spurs 6 formed on its margin which are arranged to be bent upwardly into the lining so as to retain the latter readily in place. As indicated in Fig. 3, the ejector may have a marginal flange 7 of considerable depth or it may have an inrolled rim 8 as shown in Figs. 4 and 5 which may be crimped down over the flexible lining 9 to retain the latter firmly in position.

As a preferred form of construction the e ector body 1 and handle strip 2 with the spurs 6 or flanges 7 or 8 are formed of a one piece sheet metal blank cut and bent to shape. The upper portion of the handle strip may be permanently bent downwardly and outturned for a finger pull 10 or may be bent down from time to time at different places so as to retain the ejector body at an interval from the bottom of the package as the contents of the latter is used.

In operation, the contents of the receptacle may be lifted bodily from the bottom thereof when the top is opened by drawing up on the handle strip so that the contents is either discharged from the mouth or, if inclosed in a lining is projected beyond the receptacle mouth so as to be readily removable.

The device is particularly useful when applied to pocket packages containing tobacco or the like where it Is diflicult to insert the hand to remove the material in the lower portion of the casing.

Obviously, changes in the details of construction may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention and I do not care to limit myself to any particular form or arrangement of parts.

What I claim is 1. The combination in a package having a permanently formed outer casing, and a collapsible lining, of an ejector corresponding in form to the cross sectional contour of the package and provided with folding means for engaging the lower portion of the collapsible lining, and a lifting handle inter.- mediate the ends of said ejector and extending from the margin of the ejector upwardly between the lining and the casing wall.

The combination in a package having a permanently formed outer casing provided with a lid, and a collapsible lining, of an ejector corresponding in form to the cross sectional contour of the package and provided with folding means for engaging the of the ejector upwardly lowerportion of the collapsible lining; and a lifting handleextending from the margin and the casing wall, the handle being. adapt ed to be bent downwardly over the margin of the upper end of the casing and retained handle formed integrally on the ejector that Y extends upwardly between the lining and the casing and is, adapted to be bent downwardly ever the margin of the casing.
