Description

P. HENZEl WxTNEssEs INVENTOR @im MM;
'IE STATES PATE OFFICE.
PAUL HENZE, OF KAMSACK, SASKATCHEWAN, CANADA.
BROOIVI-HOLDER.
To all ifi/0m t 'may concern Be it known that I, IAun IInNZn, oil" the village ot' Kamsack, in the .lrovince of Saskatchewan, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Broom-I-Iolders, of which the following is the specification.
The invention relates to a broom holder and the object of the invention is to provide an inexpensive simply constructed device of this class in which a broom can be placed and locked thereby preventing the broom from being stolen or taken away.
With the above object in view the invention consists essentially in a back plate provided with a pair of connected side wings and a pair of lugs, a spring hasp carried by the lugs and provided with a slot and cross opening and a lock for securing the hasp to the arms, the parts being arranged and constructed as hereinafter more particularly described.
Figure 1 represents a perspective View el my device showing it as it appears when in use. Fig. 2 is a side view olE the same.
In the drawing like characters of re'lerence indicate corresponding parts in. each figure.
1 represents a back plate supplied with a pair of opposing side wings Q and 3 having their ends brought together centrally and fastened by a rivet Ll, the extremities of the wings being supplied with registering openings 5 for a purpose later explained. The back plate is also supplied with an opposing pair ot similar lugs G and 't located above the wings and has also a number of vertically alined and centrally located openings 8 therein, 'for the reception ot' screws 9 which screws fasten the plate permanently to a wall or such like structure.
10 is a spring hasp having the upper end thereof pivotally secured to the lugs by a cross bolt 11 and the lower end thereof supplied with a slot 12 arranged when the hasp is thrown down to receive the extremities of the wings. A circular opening 3 is formed in the body of the hasp centrally which opening is in diameter slightly larger than the diameter oit' the usual broom handle.
111 is a padlock having the locking rod 15 thereof adapted to pass through the open ings 5 in the wings.
When the device is to be used the padlock is undone and the hasp is swung 'from the Specification of Letters Patent.

wings. The handle 1G ot' the broom 17 is then passed into and through the opening 13 and the hasp is then pressed down over the extremities of the wings and the locking rod 15 oi the padlock is inserted in the openings 5 and locked. It is here pointed ont that as the hasp is swung down 1t l)ams against and bites into the opposite sides of the broom handle, this el'ecting in reality the locking of the broom in the holder. One can, easily slide the broom handle upwardly but ol course owing to the broom it cannot be removed from the holder in this way. If one attempt to pull the handle down it will not move as the edges of the hasp at the sides oit the opening 13 simply bite harder into the sides ot the handle.
It will be noted that when in the holder the broom handle passes directly across the screws 9 so that one would have considerable dijtliculty in renioving even the screws if they attempted to steal both the holder and the broom.
'What I claim as my invention is 1. A broom holder comprising a suitably supported back plate provided with a pair of extending and connected side wings, a hasp pivotally secured to the back plate and having a centrally disposed opening therein adapted to receive the handle of a broom and means l'or locking the hasp to the wings, as and lor the purpose specified.
2. .i broom holder connirising a suitably supported back plate havingl a pair oil opposing similar lorwardly turned and connected side wings, a hasp pivotally secured lo the back plate at a point above the wings, Isaid hasp being provided with a centrally disposed opening' adapted to receive the handle ot a broom and relcasable means :for securing the hasp to the forward extremities nl the side wings, as and 'lor the purpose specified.
A broom holder comprising a back plate provided with a pair of opposing similar side wings bent forwardly to the front o'l the plate and connectcifl one to the other there being registering openings formed in the extremities of the wings, a spring hasp pivotally secured to the body o1 the plate at a point above the wings, said hasp being provided with a centrally disposed opening adapted to receive the handle of a broom and having .further a slot formed in one end thereof adapted to receive the extremities of the wings and releasable locking means insert'ible Within the registering l openings of the Wings, as and for the purpose specified.
fi. A broom holder comprising a suitably supported back plete having a pair of similar opposing side Wings extending for- Wardly therefrom and riveted together in advance of the plate, the extremities of the Wings being supplied with registering openings, opposing lugs located above the Wings and extending from the plate, a spring hztsp pivotell7 secured to the lugs and having a,
centrally disposed opening therein adapted t0 receive the handle of a broom and provided further at one end with a slot adapted to receive the extremities of the Wings and a padlock for securing the hasp to the Wings, as and for the purpose specified.
Signed at Kmnsaok this 23rd day of September 1912.
