REFLECTING ELECTRIC LAMP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. i0, il) f-t.
Application led August 5, 1912. Serial No. 713,317.`
To all 't0/tom 'il' may con/,fem
e it known that I, HARRY A. DOUGLAS, a citizen ot' the United States, residing at (lhicingo7 in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Reflecting Electric Lamps, `of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had 'to the accompanying drawings, forming a part oit' this specification.
My invention relates to reflecting electric lamps and has for its object the provision otf an improved construction whereby the shell that `incloses the conductors for including the lamp in circuit. may be employed for holding the back of the lamp and the lamp reflector in assembly. l
,l will explain my invention fully by reference to the accompanying drawing showing the preferred embodiment thereof and which illustrates a head light partially in section and partially in side elevation.
'the hack element a of the ylamp is desir- 'ably formed ott' sheet metal as is also the reflector portion Whose concave surface, which is the reflecting surface, is suitably brightened t'or the purpose of reflecting the light which enianzites from the incandescent lamp c. The front ot' the lamp is provided with a hinged lid di for affording access to the glass 'front and the interior of the lamp forward of the reflector, as is well known by those lf'zflniiliar with these structures. ',lhe electric lamp bulb c has a base c1 that carries the lainp terminals c, the base being suitably held within a sleeve f that is screwed into the shell y. A` plug /i ot' insulating n1aterial has tight fit 'within the outer end ot the shrll 5y and carries two .spring pressed tcrininal rmitacts that are in electrical corn ncction with pins /c carried by the plug t tightly held within the interior otl the sleeve f, this structure being similar to that which furnis the subject matter of another applica- `fion 'for ll'nitcd States Letters Patent. The remitir-tors at leading froni the source ol. curi-cnt that is to supply the lanip tcrulinafcs in ront-.wt pins n carried by a plug o of insulatine; n'iaterial that is receivable within a aide recess in the plug lf, the pins n, having peripheral recesses at their upper ends to rect-ire the sturing pressed contact terminalsl During the absence of the plug o from its sodtet. iu the 'plug l, a tl'lrcadcd nut p :scr/email into eingagcmcut with threads pro- 'ued upon the rear end ot' the shcll 3'/ that projects rearwardly through the back o. The forward end of the shell f/ is provided with a flange 7 that is placed in front of' the reflector b. By turning the ring p the reflector Z) and the back (l, are brought the proper distance apart, in which operation the flange ff at the forward end of the reflector is pressed backwardly upon thc flange s of the back. 'lhe shell y/ thus performs a double function of housing the conductors which lead to the lainp and of holding the back a and reflector I; in proper relation.
While I have herein shown and particularly described the preferred einbmliinent of iny invention, .f do not wish to he limited to the precise details of construction shown, but
l'l-aving thus described iny invention l. claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent the f ollowingr 1- 1. A. lamp strlufturc including an electric lamp element; a shell housing the conifluctors for including the laznp elenieut in circuit; a reflector for reflecting the light produced by the lainp; a haci: clement for holding the reflector; and a flange upon one end ol' the shell whereby the bach clement and reflector may be held together.
2. A lamp structure including an electric lamp element; a lshell housing the conductors for including the lalnp elcinent in circuit; a reflector for reflecting thc light produced by the lamp; a hack clement for holding the reflector, thc forward portions ot` the back element and reflector being in engagement; and a flange upon one end of the shell whereby the bach clement and reflector.' may be held together.
23. A larnp structure including an electric lalnp elcrncnf g a shell housing the condiuttors for including the lanlp clement vin circuit; a reflector for reflecting the light produced hy the lal'up; a bark element for housing the reflector; a flange upon onc end ol' thc shell; and a threaded nut upon [he other end of the shell, the hack and reflecting elementsl being interposed between the nut and fhe flange, whcrcl'iy the haci; elczncnt and reflector arc held together.
ff. A lainp structure inchuliug an clcclric lamp clcnicnt; a shell housing theconductors for irafludinjgr the lamp rlenicnt in circuit; ay reflector for reflecting the light [nruluccd hy thc lamp; a hach elcnunt Vfori' holding the rcflccfor. flul forward portions ofv the hach clement and reflector lining in cngagelll) ' q ment; a vflange upon one end of the shell; my name this twenty-rst day of June, A; and e threadednut upon the other end of D. 1912.
the shell, the back and reflectin elements being linterposed between the n and the v HARRY A' DOUGLAS' 5 flange, whereby the back element and re Witnesses:
`Hector are held together. ETTA L. WHITE,
In witness whereof, I hereunto subscribe G. L. CRAGG.
